how long before belly button looks normal?

(Kind of a superficial question, but...)

At 1 month pp, my belly button still looks like a bad garbanzo bean. Will it look like it did pre-pg? It still protrudes alot. Does the discoloration go away as well? How long will it take?

it takes a few months, my linea negra has finally started to fade and my dd is almost 8mo. my belly button has started to sink back in but still sticks out more than it used to, but that could be because i haven't lost all of the weight yet.

Sorry to say, I don't think it ever gets back to the way it was postpartum:

But mine looked much more normal after loosing some of the baby weight over the following months.

I managed to remove the discolouration by cleaning my belly button with a cotton swab soaked in facial toner. I'm betting rubbing alcohol, apple cider vinegar or baby oil would work too.

My belly button will never look normal again since I had a stretch mark run right through the middle of it. :

It may never look the same...that's why babies are so damn cute!

I do't think it ever goes abck to normal. Mine is like bigger, and I can see to the bottom, and well, it's so not cute anymore. ANd my kid's 2, so I do't think it's gonna ever go back to normal.

Rachel is totally fascninated. When she bathes with me, she pours water into it. Then she tries to drink the water. : I hate that.

Mine has never been the same. I wish I had taken pictures before I had kids.

Never.

Well, my bb never popped out, so it looked normal pretty much the whole time, just a shallower indent than normal. I still have the linea, but it is much faded.

Mine never popped out!

Mine loks pretty normal at 4mo pp, and 60lbs lighter....the skin near it is still a little loose though..

Don't mean to be negative but it may never be the same. My belly button never popped out with dd1 but it did with dd2 and it is bigger now and the discoloration is still there. DD2 is 13 mos.

Ugh... never for me. My mom saw it and told me "belly button revision" should be the top of my to-do list when I'm done havin kids. Nice, huh?

My 3y/o looks at it and says "ewww mama, your belly is GROSS!".

I had a really cute belly button pre-pg. It popped in month 5 I think and then eventually stretched and flattened completely. I'm very petite and had a 10.5 pound baby in there... all belly. I never get linea until *after* the baby is born and only in my belly button! It takes me about 8-10 months to shed that skin. But, the overall structure will never, ever look normal again. Seriously, it looks like a trainwreck.

Mine never popped out but it was stretched out flat... so now it's a stretched out innie again. I think if I lost some baby weight it would look better but heck, I never had a washboard stomach to begin with.

Mine didn't protrude any more after my sons were born. Is it possible that you have an umbilical hernia?

Regardless of hernias, I don't think most women who have had a baby ever look just the same as they did pre-babies. My belly button is more stretched out than it used to be, not the tight little pucker of my youth.

Thanks, I'll still keep my fingers x'd, I need to lose about 10 lbs (I'm guessing) to get back to pre-pg weight, so hopfully that helps. But I too had a washboard stomach and had a 9lb.2z baby. Oh right, I had my belly button pierced before too, so that got really stretched and discolored as well...a nice bonus

My dh joked with #1 that when my belly button 'popped' the baby was ready and it was time to go into labor.

Well, that being the case with #2 and #3, the babies were ready before they were ever concieved!

It's never gone back to being the innie it used to be and I doubt it ever will.
