my OB appt today..

I had been told by my perinatologist that I should deliver (by induction) at 38 weeks. Well, I talked to my OB today and she said if things keep going the way they are, I don't have to be induced! This is a huge relief for me. Not only because I need more time to get ready, but because I cringe at the thought of being forced to go into labor.

BUT, I gained 3.5 lbs in the past 3 weeks! How did THAT happen? I am guessing it was the cheese danish and pint of juice I had in the car on the way there... smooth move, eh?

ETA: oh, and my GTT is negative. yay! But I am slightly anemic. I got some iron (27mg) to supplement my prenatal vitamin at the advice of the doctor... I am afraid it may make me nauseous though. Doesn't iron do that to some people?

I thnink 3.5 lbs is right on. I was just reading to expect to gain a pound a week for the third tri

Iron can make you constipated, so make sure your first option is via natural sources and if in pill form do the chelated (or something spelled like that ) I did the slow FE and it never made me sick as long as I drank lots of water.

Congrats, Maisiedotes. I know you must be so relieved at the thought of avoiding induction. Very happy for your news!

GOOD

However, note, Theo ws schduled to be induced at 38 weeks -- i guess he over heard us he came on his own the day before

My oldest two were pitocin induced at 37 and 38 weeks and my youngest was membrane stripping at 38 weeks. I am both excited about and worried about going into labor on my own! But that's the way it should be, YAY!!!

Great news. IMO people should avoid induction as much as possible. Too many problems.

That's great news! And I think the 3.5 lb weight gain is totally normal

Yay for avoiding the planned induction! And the weight gain sounds fine to me. That's probably mostly baby and water retention at this point, and that'll melt away pretty quickly.

Yeah, my doctor (for once) didn't say a word about my weight gain. It is all a big relief. Also I have a paranoia about going into labor early and she said they would stop the labor at anything before 36 weeks- at first I didn't know how I felt about that but if it would help her develop a bit more before making her appearance it is OK with me.

Thank you all for your kind words!

i'm so glad to hear this news!

Congrats! That's wonderful! I think your labor will be SO much better if you can avoid induction!

As for the anemia, try taking Floradix Iron + Herbs instead of the iron pills. It is the midwife's "trade secret" for anemia. It absorbs better and won't make you constipated. I've been taking it for 3 weeks and feel awesome. You can get it at health foods stores.

That is great you won't need to be induced!

BTW, don't feel bad about the weight gain. Our babies are growing a lot right now. I had a mw appt. today and I gained 4 lbs in the last 2 weeks : .

remember -- average weight gain is an AVERAGE -- there will be some above it and some below it -- thus the AVERAGE I had to remind everyone on that over and over anc oaver and over with my pregancy in 2005 -- i was way under avergae, but again, if some people didn't "score" where i did the AVERAGE would not be what it was.

as long as you are healthy

as long as you are eating well

and

as long as the weight gain is not so fast as to imply a medical issue

don't worry about it

Great news about the induction... not only that you get to avoid it, but that things are going WELL and that is the reason you get to avoid it!

That's awesome news about the induction

I second the recommendation of Floradix Iron and herbs. I LOVE this stuff and it is the ONLY iron that I can take without getting sick to my stomach. Never had any constipation problems, but I run very anemic with each pregnancy and this is the first time I haven't had to be sick with the iron pills because of the Floradix. You can get it at healthfood/homeopathic stores and a bottle will last you about a month.

Tip, if you do try it, mix your little "shot" with oj. The citric acid helps you absorb the iron much better and helps get rid of any taste
