How long did it take for you to deliver the placenta?

And did you receive pitocin to move things along, or did you deliver it naturally without any drugs to help things along?

no pitocin, and I'm pretty sure it was under 5 minutes.

Pictocin (was induced w. #1) for my firstborn, delivered right after birth with "help" from my midwife.

No drugs or anything for #2 and #3 (homebirths) delivered about 20-25 minutes after birth with #2, about 10 minutes with #3.

No pit, maybe 15 minutes

Mine was "helped" out by my OB after only five minutes. (And by "helped," I mean she reached up into my uterus and forcibly removed it.) Needless to say I am not happy about that (and I'm not even that non-interventionist).

I was induced with pitocin and had a continuous drip throughout labor, so I assume I was still receiving pitocin or at least feeling the effects of it when I delivered the placenta.

I can't wait to hear more responses, given what happened to me.

I had pitocin, and they gave me a dose of that right after the birth. I'd say 20 minutes and the OB was in no hurry to get it out. She was perfectly happy to wait for it to come out. Took two small pushes.

With my first, I may have had pit -- I had an IV prior to the birth, but no pit in it -- and it was about 5-10 min. Honestly, I was birthing twins and it was happening fast and there were a zillion people in the room, so I was wasn't really paying attention. I have a pic of my placenta though.

With my third, I think about 10 min, no pit, my intervention. I remember the CNM saying, "Here comes the placenta," and it squished out.

both times was within minutes and only guided, not encouraged, by delivery attendant. (MD first time, Midwife second time)

I am no help. i don't know how long it was. It was fast enough for my midwife to say "holy cow I wasn't expecting that" and she told me I was one of her fastest placenta births. Maybe 5 minutes? No pitocin.

DD1 I was induced with pitocin and delivered the placenta within minutes of her birth.

DD2 it took 3 hrs. and my m/w gave me pitocin to help it along after 2 hrs. and she had to "encourage" it to come out.

No drugs no help, about 45 minutes to an hour. Dh and I went to cut the cord at 15 minutes after dd was born and it was still beating. So it didn't get cut till the placenta has delivered.

No drugs (during or after labor), and I think it was 5 minutes or less, though it could have been a bit longer since I was totally oblivious to the passage of time at that point. But definitely no longer than 15 minutes.

no drugs, less than 20 minutes both times.

I only remember the most recent...it was about 2-3 minutes after birth. I did have pit.

Mine took somewhere from 5-10 minutes. No pitocin.

#1, don't remember.
#2, UC, about 15-20 minutes. After I birthed the baby I actually forgot all about the placenta until I had a little urge to push, and out it slid.

Both of mine took about 15-20 minutes and just one push - no meds, no help.

It was 3 hours for me too! I'd never read of a 3rd stage this long before.

I did not have pitocin. It was a very stressful (and painful) 3 hours as my midwife was very focused on it and had me sitting, squatting, even hurting my tear to stimulate contractions (VERY painful). I'm pretty sure she did not handle this ideally but I have no idea what would have been better (for example, I don't know if it would have been better to just leave it the heck alone, or give me pitocin, or what).

I also believe it's possible that this botched 3rd stage may have interfered with breastfeeding (maybe 30 or 40 minutes after the birth, I gave my baby to my mom and spent those hours working on the placenta, and then we went to the ER to get me stitched up which also took HOURS). I honestly don't recall if I breastfed the first day after initially putting DD to the breast. It's completely gone from my memory. But she was not getting any nutrition and then she had some pretty bad jaundice and had to be admitted to the hospital. Thankfully we have a terrific LC in our area who was able to save both baby and our breastfeeding relationship.

I hope that's not too off-topic, but I figure the more people know about what can happen the better. I was just too out of it at the time to even think, but I would have done that completely differently if I had the chance.

Interesting topic.
I was just talking with my midwife about this yesterday.
I am a VBACer
Normally she would go to the hospital after 45 minutes, but if the placenta is over the c/s scar, she only waits 20 minutes. I thought even 45 minutes was a short amount of time, especially considering she would have done everything she could before transferring (she mentioned pit).

I'm wondering if this is a red flag, or maybe I'm overreacting because I'm paranoid.

With DS1 I had a natural birth lying down and placenta came about 15 mins after DS (hadn't tried nursing yet)

With DS2 I had a natural birth and gave birth squatting, placenta came about 3-5 mins after DS, again didn't have time to nurse DS before placenta popped out.
