Do you plan to homeschool all the way through?

Do you plan to homeschool until they go off to junior college, colllege, tech/vocational school, jobs, etc? Or do you think they'll go into school sometime?

We have done it all the way, she will be 18 this year.

I do.

Yes, that is my plan. I hope my children continue to agree.

I get asked this almost constantly and my kids are so little still. I think at some point in their teens it will be as much their choice as mine. I hope to evaluate it together as a family, based on their goals and interests. I mean if it's their fondest dream to be tuba players in a marching band, then homeschooling may not be the best way to achieve that. Then again maybe there will be a great marching band for homeschoolers in my area then. Maybe they'll be better served by being available to volunteer during office hours in a desired field, in which case homeschooling is the way to go.

To be completely honest I want to go all the way, but I hope I can be open minded enough to let go of that if it's what serves them best in the long run.

Thanks,
Crystal

We're playing it by ear. Since my oldest in just now starting Kindergarten, we're really trying not to plan that far ahead, but we've definitely considered it as one very viable option!

That is my plan. I expect that some college courses will start in the high school years.

We're taking it yr by yr. I hope that IF my kids enroll in traditional school, it won't be until HS. If they want to HS all the way through that is great, I envision them taking many classes at the local university and getting credit for it. Our expectation for our children is that they will go to college. If they can get into a good college through HS, that's great. If they want to do it via the traditional high school route, that is ok too. At least we live in a, "good" school district, in case that ever happens.

We're going on a year by year, kid by kid basis, so we could, conceivably, have two homeschooled and one public schooled one year and the next two in public school, one homeschooled.

I'd like to homeschool all the kids all the way, but a lot depends on them and what they want.

Yep. My Ds is 16 and Dd is almost 14. They both plan to unschool until college. (Which is kind of like unschooling in a way...)

I'd like to, but I'm also not puting expectations on us -- I'm open to the idea of public school here (at least there's no paddling: that would change my answer dramatically, regardless of a waiver!) ... depends on my school/job needs + whether we all still want my parents watching her during my absence, etc.

: We plan on going all through high school, and encourage courses at the local community college once they are ready.

Same here. We're flexible, but that's the plan.

I hope my kids will hs all the way through, we've had a lot of fun so far. But it's up to them and what they need/want.

hmmm good question

I feel like I'm not qualified to answer. Oftentimes I feel like I am not allowed to say I homeschool because I only have a preschooler. But for us it's a lifestyle.

That said DH & I have decided its going to be a case by case basis. In the end when we feel our children are responsible enough then we will help them decide what's best for them. We definitely plan on homeschooling through jr. high, but again it's a case by case basis and really we want to offer them whatever we can for them to succeed, so if eventually sending them to public school is what they need to be challenged then that will be what we will do. I was an "average" student in highschool and hated math and science. Honestly, I don't know that I'll be able to provide for them in that aspect when the time comes. But who knows? Maybe they will provide for themselves?

I am willing to do it, but it's going to depend on what they want to do. Once we get into the teen years, I will strongly encourage community college classes over high school, because they would get the nitty-gritty without all the hand-holding, drama, and excessive personal restrictions.

I do with DD (13) and she completely agrees :

I am still waiting to see how it goes with DS (8) but I suspect he'll have no desire to go to school.

DD (11) is still in school and I am hoping we'll be taking her home in the future.

I plan to homeschool through "high school graduation."

My hope is to homeschool through 8th grade and then send them to a private Quaker boarding school near our home through graduation- they will be day students there.
