My dh and I are planning our first homebirth. We've been doing our research, we love our midwife, all is going very well. The friend who introduced us about 7 years ago is still friends with his ex-gf and her friend who are both new Ob/GYNs at a major local hospital.
While we've gotten such poor response from other friends on our plans to homebirth, we were pretty sure these fresh new surgeons would not want to hear of our plans. Surprisingly, they were very interested! They both asked lots of questions, they weren't argumentative... they *really* liked the setup: two midwives with me all the time, cleaning up as we go, how the bed is setup with the fresh sheets underneath the showercurtain layer so we can snuggle back into bed in our own bedroom... No questions were brought up about eek!-emergencies, maybe we'll discuss that at a later time, but it was really cool to be able to talk to them about this so positively and confidently.
It's my first birth and while I'm confident I can do this, I don't think I want lots of people around during my labor/birth... but I'd *love* to have these two MDs observe, w/out interferring at all, a normal, natural birth unfold as it should.
As my dh finished sharing what normally happens at a homebirth, one of the friends, warm and caring, said, "This sounds great. I'm the 'competition' so I can't tell my patients about this, but it really sounds great." I'm thinking that maybe we planted a seed...
yeahhhhhh!!!!!!
