baby Story -- Natural Birth from yesterday. Push, dont make sounds! Grrrr!

Ok, that gets me mad! A mama was going without medication in a hospital and doing so well and thus nurse or Dr kept telling her how to hold her legs and keep opening them wider and telling her not to make noise while pushing. She was hardly making any sounds at all, bless her heart! Grrrrrr. It seemed like she was being rushed and bossed around and I would have kicked the lady about then I think. LOL

My DD was watching with me over our lunch time and asked if all moms scream when baby comes out. I told her that a lot make noises because it is so intense and can hurt but it does not last forever and she does not have to be scared. She told me she will cheer me on and tell me I can do it. I am was amazed that her first responce was to offer support and she did not seem worried at all. I do adore her. Some how with her there I think I will be stronger so I do not scare her.

Blessings,
Kimmy

I tried to watch Birth Day today, but I had to shut it off because the whole thing was an anesthesiologist giving an epidural while he assured the audience that all risks ever thought to be associated with an epidural have been "disproven." The mom was giggling (silly risks) the whole time.

Your daughter rocks. She needs to give a few lessons to HolisticMama's midwife!

darn- I only saw the first half of this topic when I clicked on it, hoping to find a nice, normal birth story from the TV show.

I hate that show, every birth on goes horribly wrong in my opinion. It all starts off with the stupid parents and then gets worse when they listen to their stupid doctors. I can't even watch that show anymore, I end up seething, wanting to send nasty letters and boycott all the advertisers (you know, the formula companies and drug companies)

I was so hoping to find that someone on the show had a nice birth, so I could write the producers a NICE letter, an it's-about-time letter, expressing all my hatred and negativity in a way that makes me sound encouraging.

darn it. they suck.

Oh, like last week they had a wonderful hypnobaby birth! Every so often they have a really good birth in my opinion!

I was also watching one yesterday where the midwife was AWESOME and telling her to take her time and let her body push the baby out, but the nurse or whomever was there kept directing her to do things like push and counting to 10. It really bugged me.

Hee hee! I agree with you!!! I've seen a couple, maybe five beautiful natural childbirths-even waterbirths on that show. The natural ones always make me cry. I'm so proud of the mamas who persevere. But I told Dh I have got to stop watching that show cause whenever it's a "normal" hospital, intervention-happy birth, I get so mad! I especially get furious as I see them wisk the newborn away from the mama and the baby is crying and crying searching for something familiar for comfort and the mama is all the way across the room. Ahhhhhh! I just want to swoop in there and hand that baby back to it's mom. Talk about a traumatic birth experience! Those poor babies. It makes me so sad watching their little heads turn every direction looking for their mama.

Why??? Was it a Scientology birth or something?

What bugs me is certain babies who get all wrapped up like burritos and everyone stands around while the family holds the baby and coos but the baby is looking really hungry, sucking madly on a fist. I mean, put the baby to the breast already! I'd never noticed that before, but I think my instincts have kicked in ferociously and I want to feed everything that cries!

It seems like all the births take place in New Jersey, too. :

I made the mistake of watching "Babies: special delivery" yesterday and nearly lost my mind. It was all about babies who have problems and high-risk mothers. It, of course, sent me into a panic! I have to pull myself away from those shows! One birth I only caught the pushing stage of and the mother just pushed twice and out came the baby and I thought "wow, she pushed that baby out so easy and it didn't even hurt! I wonder if it was a hypnobirth!" well, DUH, she had an epidural, dummy! I guess it doesn't occur to me that many of those women have epi's.

I saw that Baby Story yesterday and wondered if I was crazy or if that was the quietest birth I had ever seen! Now I know I'm not crazy. She was kind of a timid lady, but wow, that was a very dainty birth. I think I would probably have been yelling and grunting like nobody's business.
