Some more CDs in again... Questions...

I was lucky enough to receive another small box of cloth diapers through Freecycle. Again, like the last WAY too big for a while...and ironically, delivered in a bulk 'sposie box. I find that to be really funny! Or maybe just sad...

Anywhoo, looks like pocket diapers and inserts.

There are 6 Happy Heiny's pocket dipes (size large) and it seems the six terry cloth contoured things fit inside those.

Then 5 hemp, contoured inserts that seem to belong in the 5 extra large Ella's Pockets.

She says she forgot the "liners." Do you have a clue what that means?

She says they had a funky smell and thought it was due to well water. I can wash these and sun these myself, but short of having one of the boys pee on one to see if it funks up, I don't smell a thing. Do you think it requires pee to get funky?

Also, I guess this is an individual choice, but should I hold onto these or try to trade them for smaller dipes I can use right away.

I am not crazy about the pocket dipes. I guess they dry faster, but just putting the inserts in just now kind of bugged me. I think I would like one size and AIOs better.

I knew that about myself but she hadn't specified which they were or what size they were and she was coming from 45 minutes away, so they're mine now.

Suggestions? Comments?

You can stuff them with your prefolds (you have those, right?). Some people use special 'stuffins' but I never find they absorb as well as folded up prefolds.

Pocket diapers can get a little stinky because of buildup on the fleece. Maybe a wash with vinegar would help strip them.

I'd hang onto them personally. Pocket diapers are great for heavy wetters, AIOs are not! Unless that is, you buy the uber expensive kind...

They might need to be really washed and rinsed well. Sports washes work well to strip them. My IL's have well water, and they do get some sort of mineral build up that can cause a bit of a funk, but, I havent washed that much there to really have a problem.

BUT...if your considering getting rid of the Ella's inserts, I'd gladly find a nice home for them!! They are my favorites!! I'm sure I could find something to trade!

And liners...maybe she put some sort of doubler in? or on top? Everyone kind of finds their own groove..

Talk about a sign of surrender! Reminds me of the time I was waiting in line at Weight Watchers to get weighed and another woman and I noticed a bulk KitKat package in the garbage, like someone stumbled into WW at the tail end of a binge...

Anyway, if they were free, I say keep 'em. Wash them with vinegar and some oxy-stuff and stash 'em til you need them.

Like the others said, they may not get stinky until they are used. I plan on stripping ALL of my used dipes before use anyways just in case the babe had thrush or any other botty issues that I want to eliminate the possibility of passing along. Hot hot water, lots of washes and some Tea Tree oil will also do the trick nicely so they say :

Um, I'd bet I could find you something to trade for the L happy heinys if you want and send em with the sleepers if you still want those

I think you're right, I should hold them... right? You sure? Oookaaayyyyyy... Okay. Okay! I am just in this mode to get dipes that fit the baby under 6 months old, you know?! Seems like I keep getting my hands on free dipes, but they're all too big!

Keep em woman You will totally need them sooner than you think and then you will be kicking yourself that you didn't hold on to them and actually have to buy some.

You're right. And I was thinking this morning as I was carrying them out to the garage that they're all supposed to be practically brand new because she barely used them. So I guess they stay!

Definitely keep them! And strip them really well. Cold rinse, HOT water with dawn dish soap on the longest cycle your machine has, then rinse rinse rinse... They may stink a bit if you just put water on them, but they will really stink if you put pee on them if they are stinky diapers.
