contractions/active labor???

Thread Starter
so i finally started having contractions last night with some regularity.
7 minutes apart 2 minutes in duration. all night. i slept off and on. this morning the same, with LOTS of really painful back contractions. but i've noticed that i still feel like i'm having braxton hicks contractions in between these more focused contractions. is that possible? i'm debating to go to the birth center. they say 5 minutes between/ 1 minute in length for at least an hour before you show up. but what about these other super tight but less painful contractions between my 7min 2min dur. ones???
anyone know? can you have BH along w/ other contractions?
suggestions?

Yeah, I was having BH contractions between the painful ones...and the nurse told me "A contraction is a contraction whether it's painful or not"... But I'm not sure if others would agree with her. It's all very confusing to me.

It is def. normal to have bigger contrx along with smaller ones in b/n and that does make it a pattern. At this point even the smaller contrx need to be considered.

I had the same experience with my first pregnancy -- painful ones intermittent with easier ones to breathe through. That lasted for a couple hours before I was consistently getting painful ones without the oh-so-missed easy ones. Although you should probably be counting them all, I wouldn't get too excited until it gets more consistent

I agree with this one - I spent many hours wasted counting ctx - and then all of a sudden they changed! and I just KNEW it was the real deal. You will definitely feel a change in the character of the ctx. Hang in there!!!!

Yup to all of the above...and if you are reading this you are not in active labor. But sounds like you are getting there.
