Does anyone here teach babywearing classes?

I have noticed a huge need for something like this in my community....most people have never heard of a sling and those who have gave up because they couldn't get the hang of it. So, I had kind of half thought about doing this for quite some time when a supplier just kind of fell into my lap this weekend. Now I am wondering how in the world ot get started....

Do you think the best way would be in a home setting, almost like a party, or do you think I should look into community centers? Hospitals??

Is advertising really expensive?

Any ideas at all would be awesome!

I would say WIC offices, hospitals, community centers, and maybe even an ad in a local paper to see if there's interest

Thanks for the suggestions

It's kind of funny, cuz this is something I have daydreamed about doing for a long time, but it is scary once it might actually become a reality!

i don't know if you are wanting to make $ or to works s a volunteer? I volunteer my time locally with a resource center and local postpartum doulas to teach babywearing. i do this in mother's homes. I bring 5 or 6 varieties and show their benefits with my baby and theirs. You will likely find plenty of free advertising opportunities at midwives offices and such.

good luck and i agree there is a huge need for babywearing awareness!

I teach babywearing classes locally and I also do a home service. I have a group of women online that discuss and swap lesson plans and tips if anyone is interested. mama@mamasmith.com I have some MS Word documents I can share if anyone is interested. Also, I have a list of links for making your own slings and such that I hand out for folks who get interested in a few different kinds of sling and don't want to commit to one specific sling. I have a pretty big collection of carreirs and I bring as many as I can in all different sizes so everyone can try them and I work one on one with everyone. You can start your own class and find a community place to meet like a local hall, or you can ask local hospitals to include your class with thier prenatal and post partum education. You can also have "sling parties" at home. Email me and I'll hook you up with another mama who is starting to do this in her community.

oooo, i am glad i found this thread!
i wanted to start up something in my area since i have a lot of different kinds of slings and i love to talk to people about the benifits of babywearing!! i really think so many more mainstream mamas would wear their babies if they only knew how easy it can be.
i will have to remember to subscribeto the email list (like i need yet another one :P )!!
