I am so amazed to find all this wonderful information here. I have been reading, but wanted to ask for some guidance from anyone with experience. I never had a cavity in my life (I'm 35), and have gone to the dentist for cleanings regularly every 6 months for my entire life. But after my youngest was born, I put it off, until suddenly it had been about 4 years since my last visit and I found myself with a toothache and an actual visible, small hole in my tooth. I researched and researched (or so I thought, I didn't know about this here yet) before choosing a dentist, because I wanted to avoid x-rays and unnecessary procedures. SO I chose a "holistic" dentist that happened to be pretty close to me, who seemed to be well-recommended. I like him, and he is very nice. He doesn't use flouride, doesn't do root canals, etc. However, they still do x-rays and fill cavities.
It turned out that I had a very large cavity in that tooth, and I needed an inlay as opposed to just a regular filling. I had a blood test done to see what types of materials are best suited for me, and had this work done. On further exploration, I have another smaller cavity that needs a filling, and I have periodontal disease (with pockets, etc.). When I went there, I wanted to say, no x-rays, or just at least the very minimum you absolutely have to do. But, of course, I caved while there, and wound up having the full mouth set of x-rays, because I was told they needed that to see what was going on with my teeth. Now, I wish I hadn't done that, and had just said, please just examine my teeth for cavities.
So, now they are saying I need to come back for a perio treatment that they use to treat the gum disease (which I had to sign a paper saying I understand I have been diagnosed with this and that if I don't do anything it can be very bad for my health, heart, etc.). They use mostly "natural" stuff like herbs, etc for this treatment, but I am still cautious.
Does anyone have any advice for me? Would adopting the WAP protocol be enough, or do I probably still need to do this perio treatment? What about the other small cavity? I hate the fact that I had never had a filling in my life and now I have this huge filling. Would it have been possible to fix that through nutrition? I am wondering what people did before x-rays and the technology to fill cavities. I have just started reading Nutrition and Physical Degeneration, but it is a looong book, so any advice would be greatly appreciated, as I have an appt Monday am.
Thanks so much for reading this!
