It just occured to me...

that my 3yo might have food allergies. He has been complaining for several months, if not a year , that his bum hurts. Whenever I wipe him after he poops he cries before I even touch him and I try to be very gentle. I have thought for a while now that I should take him to the doctor but I haven't because I don't want to get into endoscopies and stuff like that with a 3yo. He did have the RAST last year and it came back negative for everything but I just read that the test has a high incidence of false negatives, so...

I was going to start an elimination diet for me because my baby shows signs of food allergies, almost definitely dairy and maybe some other foods. Is this a good place to start for my 3yo as well rather than taking him to the doc?

Also, now I'm a bit concerned about the elimination diet because I just read some people have supply issues after being on it. Is this common? Is there a way to try to avoid it from the get go?

what are his bowel movements like? Does he have a rash at all?

I'm not sure if he has a rash. When I asked, he wouldn't let me look. Funny considering other times he purposely sticks his butt in my face and thinks it's the funniest thing. I made an appointment with the pediatrician for both of my little ds'. It should be interesting since it'll be the first time my 3 month old has seen a doc at all and a long time since my 3yo has seen a ped.

Forgot about the stools, I think they're normal. He doesn't seem to have trouble going, no blood that I've ever noticed. He doesn't have diahrrea, either. Is that what you meant? Is there something else I should look for?

I would start with taking out wheat. My daughter has had issues off and on for years with complaining that her bottom hurts. We found out this summer that she has a wheat sensitivity. Since cutting back her wheat (we've not totally taken it out, but greatly reduced) she's not complained once.

I took ds to the ped on Monday to talk about food allergies and diet/nutrition. The doc decided that ds doesn't have a food allergy or sensitivity but does have sensory integration disorder (sid). This is something that never entered my mind. I really don't think this is the issue. We were referred to OT. I'm not sure if I should just take him to the OT specialist to be evaluated or let it go.

I would take him to be evaluated. Knowing my luck, I would let it go, try out food allergies, and then find out that I should've gone to the OT in the first place.

Thanks. I've gotten some info on the highly sensitive child and I think that sounds a lot more like my ds. I may still take him to be evaluated just so I can say I did it if the doc asks again.
