what did you like to munch while in labor?

My friend's water broke so I'm guessing she'll be having a baby in at least the next few days (thank god for midwife attended care - no 12 hr time limits here!)

she called and asked me to bring some snacks and juice to her house. problem is she didn't really know what she wanted.

granola bars? popsicles?

gimme ideas people, I just woke up

I ended up getting cranberry and oj, juice popsicles, grapes, bananas, some cheese crackers, cheese sticks, yogurt, and soft granola bars. she's still in very early labor - I left her so she could take a nap with her DP - so we ate some sonic for lunch earlier

Our birthing instructor suggested having some honey sticks around... the ones that are like a straw sealed at both ends and filled with honey. Quick pick-me-up with a high degree of oral satisfaction and a low impact on digestion. ;-)

I'm an odd one. I had quesadillas (dh made them) and fresh grapes during labor. Best food I've ever eaten. I'm requesting the same for next time.

I would have been miserable with granola bars and sugary snacks and such. I loved having real, fresh food - hot food - etc. But I'm not a vomiter and I didn't vomit at all during labor, so maybe that has something to do with it.

Next time I think I also might like to have a meal at a restaurant, if labor starts slowly like before. Eating was so delicious and orgasmic that I think I might really enjoy a "special"/out labor meal in early labor.

I ate Snickers bars, but I was in a hospital and wasn't "allowed" food, so, I scarfed what my husband brought from the vending machine.

If I'd had a choice, it would have been french fries and sno cones...french fries at the beginning, and lightly flavored snowcones when I was puking (yes, I puked during labor...never had morning sickness, but was paid back during labor).

A meal in a restaurant??? Holy cow...I had a short labor...8 hours 9 mins from start to finish, and it started at 3:06am...maybe Denny's??? Mmmm....Moons Over My Hammy! (I don't even like that, but the name gets me every time) ROFL.

Yep..I went to IHOP and had a double helping of swedish crepes! But once labor kicked in more I didn't want to eat anything, in the hospital the nurses were making me so mad trying to make me drink juices and stuff to give me more energy - the only apitizing thing to me was water...I was sooooooooooooooo thristy.

well, her labor lasted 5 hrs after the contractions got started, didn't really get a chance to try out all the snacks. she had some juice and a granola bar when things were pretty intense though, then afterward a banana and more juice. she did great! baby is great! Now I have to find a way to sleep - I've got an adrenaline rush

during labor- scrambled eggs, pasta
during pushing for quick energy- honey on a spoon

watermelon and fresh fruit. hopefully clean out the bowel before you start pushing. bonus: makes the first post-childbirth poop easier, too.

We did pineapple juice diluted in water

In very early labor I ate eggs with cheese on toast. In late labor I ate smoothie popsicles that I had made a few days prior. Just freeze a smoothie! I loved the coldness because I was sweating like crazy from all of the work my body was doing.

with all of mine, i ate before heading into the hospital...

i'm not a good patient, so i never listened when they said i couldn't eat. had pizza delivered in with my first, lol...the doc KNEW it was for me, but couldn't prove it, hehe...ended up puking so badly that i rethought the pizza idea.

with my last, mom brought in a bunch of bread, cheese, and condiments...and everyone made sandwiches. she brought me a HUGE tub of cut-up fruit, and i ate every bite! when the nurses went and tattled...the OB said that fruit was mostly water, and that i could do as i wished.

um, we also had yogurt, and smoothies...and MORE fruit! oh, and a donut or three.
