Hi everyone, my name is Christina and this forum is one of the reasons I joined.
August 1st my mom and I took my 2 yr old son to a pediatric dentist where we learned he was going to need major dental work done to the tune of $2400. Fortunately for him, they did not have a place to do that kind of work. They couldn't get a hospital operating room until sometime in October, so we were told to brush, brush, brush with a fluoride toothpaste every time he ate or drank anything. But we were also told not to allow him too swallow the toothpaste. All little kids swallow toothpaste
, so why not? We read on the back of the toothpaste: If swallowed, immediately contact your doctor, OR the nearest Poison Control Center! Yikes!
My mom had already been giving him a xylitol chewing gum and the dentist encouraged that, so when we got home she looked in a book she has called "Your Vital Child" about tooth decay and what parents can do. Then she went on the web and researched what she learned from the book plus more fully investigated xylitol.
Then we requested prayer for what we were about to embark on...
Below is the regimen we have him on now, plus websites for the products we are using:
Three times daily he gets
2 tablets of Calc Fluor 6X
2 tablets of Calcarea Phos 30X
3 pellets of Calcarea Carb 200c
3 pellets of Kreasotum 30c
www.elixirs.com
Once a day he gets a Multi-Vitamin w/calcium. Also we use Calm for Babies [which is a magnesium drink].
At least three times daily Trenton's teeth are brushed either by me or by my mom with Oravive w/NovaMin www.oravive.com toothpaste. And then, basically, after he eats anything with Spry Xylitol Infant tooth gel www.xlear.com.
We also have him chew Spry gum, we are waiting for the Xylichew gum to come www.tundratrading.com/ and Hershey's "Carefree Koolerz Gum" http://www.hersherys.com/koolerz/sug...ng-gum/xylitol, both of these have more xylitol in them than Spry gum. According to the information we've read, a child needs 6 to 10 grams of xylitol daily for it to really help their teeth.
My mom also found a tooth wipe called Spiffies www.spiffies.com that is composed with Xylitol and we use these when he goes to sleep on us before we can get his teeth brushed.
Anyway we have looked up several websites listed below, both personal testimonies and official sites that tell about fluoride use and of the wonderful benefits of xylitol, AND that dental caries can be reversed IF we stay on that right kind of regimen.

If you have early gum disease or cavities, there is a chance these problems can be reversed (yes, repaired) by you, at home! If you have advanced gum disease and large cavities, regular use of Xylitol can stop things from getting worse.

Clinical studies have shown Xylitol use prevents cavities (also known as dental caries) and even stops or reverses
tooth decay.
The studies conducted over the last 30 years have proven that Xylitol prevents tooth decay and plaque formation. In studies of 500 and 1,000 children who chewed gum containing Xylitol compared to those who did not, existing cavities were healed, and cavities not only did not increase, but decay was actually reduced over the time of the study.

Do not use fluoride toothpaste or a fluoride rinse. You can make your own rinse with water and xylitol.
Do use a toothpaste/gel which contains xylitol. You can begin using a baby gel as soon as the teeth come in when you use Spry Infant Tooth Gel. You can learn more about xylitol and the many benefits it provides, especially when you use it to replace the sugar in your foods. Xylitol helps kill the cavity causing bacteria in your child's mouth, and when replacing the sugar with xylitol, you are helping double-fold.
We found that too much xylitol [we were giving it to him when he drank juice and in his water bottles, etc] gave Trenton diarrhea, but when we cut down his intake, it stopped immediately.
After seeing the change in my son from this regimen for just 1 1/2 months, his teeth appear to be stronger and whiter, he is talking more and better, and he is eating better as well. I notified the dentist that we were going to continue doing this for the next several months before making another appointment.
Anyway I hope I haven't "talked"
too much. If I have I am just excited about this. I am sure if Trenton could talk big people talk he'd say he was happy about it too. His experience at the dentist was NOT a good one!
