I'm wondering how each of us has handled it when our bag of waters broke spontaniusly and nothing much happened for awhile.

Home birth with PROM (continual leaking). I marked "induced labor" because we used blue and black cohosh (not necessarily recommended though). Delivered 2.5 days after PROM. I did worry about it a bit, though (and I didn't know MDC then so I really had no place to get reassurance). Baby was born fine. I checked my temperature every 4 hours or so, and also checked baby's heartbeat every now and then, and also kept drinking a lot of water.

I guess I had PROM because I didn't give birth until 20 hours after my water broke. It broke fully, spontaneously, and labor started immediately (I was having some mild contractions before it broke). My son had no problems nor did I. I was GBS+ and did diluted Hibiclens lavages every few hours.

First pg- I waited 24 hours, trying to start labor at home. No luck. Went into OB to get checked and their fern test was neg! I continued leaking, but they said it was vaginal fluid or urine and sent me home.
Over the next 4 days I leaked "urine" everytime I stood up. I knew my water had broken, maybe a high leak. So I played it safe- no sex or anything up the vagina.
5 days after the inital rupture I went into spontaneous labor. After the doc caught the baby, she said to the nurse- "I have no record of Membrane rupture- you forgot to chart it." The nurse replied that there never was a rupture and they scratched their heads (they had inserted an IUPC and Internal monitor on the baby without having to rupture the forebag earlier and never thought to ask when my water broke). I told them it had broken 5 days before! They gave me ATB through the IV and all was well.
2nd pg- water broke while pushing! Thank goodness.

If it happened again, I'd take acidophilus and vit c and watch my temp. If infection looked likely, I'd have my MW give IV ATB.

My water broke with #3 while I was napping and nothing happened for about 8h. I went for a long walk with my dog. I ate pizza. Finally I decided to get on the breastpump and YOW -- I went from no ctx to really really painful ones in about 5 minutes. Went to the hosp about an hour later, dd was born about 3h after that.

Btw, the pizza was a mistake. It didn't taste so good coming back up.

ETA: labor was fine, birth was fine, baby was fine, we went home after 24h.

PROM at 36w5d, continuous leaking, labor didn't start spontaneously, unassisted birth, self induced with various methods(homeopathic caulophyllum and cimicifuga, cumin tea, others possibly). Babe born at home(vaginally) at 37 weeks unassisted.
