Hi all,

Introducing BirthNetwork of Hudson County (NJ)! We are a local chapter of a national, non-profit organization that is dedicated to helping pregnant women make the choices that are right for them. Informed choices can only be made with adequate information and many women in NJ are not given proper information from their doctors. Come to our meetings which feature a diverse mixture of speakers from the birthing community. Learn firsthand what you can do to protect your right to informed consent and refusal and to find mother-friendly care. Other topics include: "Health in Pregnancy and Birth", "Hormones of Labor" and "How to Remain Empowered".

Our next BirthNetwork meeting will be held on Saturday, September 22nd from 10 AM to 12 Noon at Jersey City City Hall, 280 Grove St. (btw. Montgomery and Mercer Sts.) Jersey City, NJ. The room is #204 AKA: The Caucus Room. The Grove St. PATH stop is one block away.

Our speaker this month is Elan McAllister, co-founder of Choices in Childbirth (www.choicesinchildbirth.org) and long-time birth activist. The subject will be "Informed Consent and Refusal and Mother as Consumer".

For those interested in supporting other moms and for those moms looking to learn how to recognize mother-friendly care, please come to our free meetings.

Help spread the word: mothers should be receiving maternity care that treats them with respect, views birth as a normal and healthy process, and performs evidence-based procedures that are in the best interest of the baby and mother.
