Attention Neti Pot Users!!!

Hi, I just got my Neti Pot and have some questions about it. I have seasonal allergies (nothing I take medication for or anything) but they are there nonetheless. Today, I got that itchy tickle in my nose, but wasn't congested or anything. I used my Neti Pot, and although some clear mucous came out, I didn't especially feel stuffed up or anything. Well, now, a few minutes after I completed both sides, now I am feeling stuffy and a little congested. What's up with that? Is that just my body flushing out the dust/particles? Why wasn't I congested before, but I am now? How many times a day should I use the pot, if my symptoms are just itchy tickle nose (don't know how else to describe it)? Thanks for the help and advice. Also, I'm pregnant. I usually don't have allergies during this time of the year. Usually just spring/pollen bothers me. This is pretty new. If my body is creating hystamines now, is my baby going to be affected by this? Is it likely that the baby will develop allergies because I am symptomatic during pregnancy? Any way to help avoid passing that along to my kiddo?

I don't use a neti pot (only because everytime I order one from Frontier, they end up being out of stock ). However, I wanted to chime in and say that my allergies are always much worse during pregnancy. I think it's pretty normal, actually. All of your capilaries (and everything else!) are swollen, so you're more congested anyway, and for whatever reason, allergies tend to be a lot more sensitive.

There might be some residual moisture left in your nose, which can feel "stuffy" or "drippy." It usually clears up on its own within an hour or so, and leaves your nose feeling clearer than before using the neti pot.

Hey there,

How was the water temp? When you dip a finger in, it should feel neutral (i.e. body temp) rather than warm or cold. I know slightly warmer or colder often makes me stuffy. Also, it's true about congestion during pregnancy; it's one of the early symptoms I had this time around (currently 5 weeks preg. with #2) that I had blocked out of my mind from #1. Now it's all coming back & I do remember sitting hovered over steam for quite a bit of my first pregnancy.

Hope this helps....

i always get too stuffy when the salt level is too high in my neti pot. also, are you using filtered water? this may make a difference too.
