Lets talk about birthday cake :)

Anyone here making a cake or buying one for baby's big arrival day? If so, what kind?!?!

And if not, post something really naughty and scrumptious ( and chocolately! ) that I can make this week so I can round out my weight gain to an even 100 lbs (haha, jk )

Well, today is my birthday and my due date!
I already bought lots of sweets from the bakery truck that stops outside our house every morning. This afternoon DH and the kids are going to make me a chocolate cake. If the ice cream truck comes by I may just have to get an ice cream! (It's a real ice cream shop on wheels - not just popsicles and such).
I hope the baby comes today. Then I can say all this naughtiness is on his/her behalf - not just for me.

That's the job DS and his sitter (our friend) have at the birth center. I just bought box mixes to make it easy for her - chocolate cake with vanilla frosting. Lots of sprinkles (DS is 2, need I say more?). We will have a little party after the birth with some gifts from the kids to each other.

I'm going to be so bummed if I get timed out of the BC (only 8 more days). I'm really looking forward to the party.

ETA: Oh, if my labor goes remarkably fast and they don't have time to make a cake they will run to the corner store and buy one...

I never even thought about a cake. Mmm....that sounds good though. And since it is a birthday. Maybe on the day I'll have dh run and get one at some point. I don't think anyone will feel like baking one that day. But that's a really nice idea.

Sending you labor vibes gizzyntazz

I'm sure my birthday cake will be covered in sprinkles and gummy bears and jelly beans and icing ... my dd has the biggest sweet tooth in the world and is the official cake decorator around here.

I don't think my baby is going to come today though

mmmm sprinkles, yep that sounds kid friendly!

I was thinking that I really wanted a black forest cherry cake, but not sure how that will taste after labor...hmmm....

my back up is just going to meijer and grabbing a small round cake with her name on it

I am sending either my parents or my husband out for a cake after the baby is born. Cake, wine (I don't care if they don't go together), and some balloons. I think it will make the whole occassion more fun for my son as well.

Definitely chocolatey!

I'm from the October dd group, but the word cake pulled me over. When I was in labor with dd, I made a Chocolate Whiskey Bundt Cake that I found on epicurious.com. My labor ended up fizzling out so we didn't eat it that night but it is one of those cakes that tastes better the longer it sits. Two days later it was even better.

MMM, Chocolate Whiskey Bundt Cake sounds awesome. Plus I'd love an excuse to buy some whiskey. I haven't bought any whiskey for a year!

I've been thinking of making a big ol' cheesecake and freezing it. But I also like the idea of cooking a chocolate cake in early labor. Hey, why not do both?

I'm glad I'm not the only mama excited about a "birthday cake" (though I don't have any other kids -- it's for me! Oh, and the baby, the partner, and the support team.)

I planned to make a dark chocolate cake with dark chocolate icing on my due date, but when I was in labor I definitely did not feel like taking the time to bake it and Andrew is not what I would call a good cook I decided to make it on his one month birthday instead, its going to be soooo good.

I got one!!

I picked a ready made one up yesterday at the store, choclate cake, white buttercream frosting, with sprinkles arond the sides for the kids pink trim & flowers AND Happy Birthday Hannah on it.

Now if only she'll come out so we can enjoy it

We're going to have cheesecake and this lovely red spumante (that we originally got for our wedding) for our birthday party... Now the question is just, do I want to make the cake, and stick it in the freezer, or have DH go out and buy one?? His idea of cooking is leaves much to be desired... it would more correctly be termed "chemistry" that you can sometimes eat... My mom had cake on all our birthdays (10 of us) so I figured it's only right to carry on the tradition. : Next time if we have a boy it will be a carrot cake!

The only cake i am thinking of is a "groaning cake" - with molasses & raisins. (Recipe is in the book 'The Birth House' - my favourite book, reading it now for the 3rd time.) Making it should keep me busy during the 'early' part. If there is no time, it might get made later. There's also a DQ up the block, so if the craving for ice cream cake kicks in...
Good luck and happy births (and birthday cakes) to all!!!
