soap nuts - Page 2

I live in Canada and I bought some from www.soapnuts.ca They have free shipping over $60.

I haven't used them on cloth diapers but they work great on my clothes. I always use stain remover for any stains though, as good as they are at getting my clothes clean, they do not take out stains without extra help.

I am switching to cloth and am going to see how they work on my diapers. I'll post a review after I've tried it out.

I ordered them from this company. In a soapnut shell They took a month to arrive and the bag was torn and shoddily re-wrapped by US customs, but it was worth it because they work great!!

I like to make a liquid out of them and use it in the dishwasher.

Yeah-I love soap nuts. They make everything not only clean but so so so soft without any thing in the rinse water or dryer. I also like to use gray water for the yard and the soap nuts don't cause problems in the plants.

I used a sample of Maggies sopnuts in my HE washer and some of my clothes did not come out clean. I had a rather large load and I wonder if that was enough of soap nuts. How many soap nuts do you use per load in HE washer?

Mountain Rose Herbs has some too. (Make sure you order in such a way to help MDC. )

I am a new user (2 months at most). I love my soapnuts and I love them with cloth dipes-- bum genius. The staining is something I expected, but I wash them so frequently that I expect they are going to wash out/bleach out when the sun returns. The inserts (which are usually an icky yellow when I put them in) always come clean.

I have a top loader and have been able to use the 3 soap nuts in the little bag for double the recommended time. My directions (from naturoli) say that the soapnuts turn grey when they are done, but I've never seen them turn grey, and have just changed them after 8 or so washings. They seem to still be fine, but I want to make sure I get the dipes clean, so will not experiment at the moment.

DH tends to throw the bag in the dryer. Any ideas as to how this impacts the soapnuts' life/usability? This'll be less of an issue later, but I just wondered.

Also, I posted a separate question about washing down comforters with soapnuts. Any ideas?

Just want to say I just started using soap nuts liquid as an all-purpose cleaner and I'm amazed. I rarely use all-purpose cleaners because I think they all smell horrible. Soapnuts smell so much better. I just have one problem. What do you ladies do to keep it from going rancid? Keep it in the fridge? Or put some TTO in? I personally don't like the smell of tea tree oil much, either. Is there something else that would act as preservative?

I love my soap nuts and have used them exclusively for over a year. Here are a few tips I have picked up from friends and through trial and error
Greasy type stains need to be pretreated-I found the same with all natural soap so I am used to it. I use castille soap and the stains mostly come out.
I use non-chlorine bleach for whites. In the summer everything gets hung outside so stains were never and issue-now that it is winter I can't do it as much.
The dryer seems to have no effect, my hubby tosses the bag in the dryer as well and they last just fine.
To keep the liquid from going south-I combine the soapnuts with vinegar and water to make all purpose cleaner and I cleans EVERYTHING. If I am brewing them for my hubby to wash his hair with(they get rid of dandruff, I put the strained liquid in a foaming pump and it works great) I brew alot less so they get used up before they go yucky.
