Camden James was born last Friday, 9/14/07 after a long day and night of contractions and monitors... he came via c-section.
Here is his birth story...
Around 2 am I started having contractions and they were about 1/2 hr apart so I opt'd to go to work and ride it out since I heard it take awhile the first time around. Once there though the contractions started getting closer about 15 minutes apart so I left and headed home after 1 hour there. Got home and my husband met me there and we headed to the OB to get checked this was around 11am. She said to walk around for a few hours and that I was only at 1cm and 70% efaced (SP?). So we did.. hit Best Buy and bought the Jack Johnson Curious George cd to listen to at the hospital.. and hit Barnes and Nobel to get a nursery rhyme book. Contractions were now 5-7 minutes appart and much stronger... we headed to the hospital around 1pm. I rode out the contractions for a few hours and finally caved in to an epidurral (SP?) around 5pm. He wasn't doing well through the contractions his heart rate kept lowering and all these nurses were rushing around us checking and moving things. So the night went like that.. alarms from monitors going off nurses rushing in etc. they tried to speed up the labor by giving me pitosan (SP?) and he really didn't like that-- his heart rate really took a dip this was around 6am/7am and within half an hour I was asked if I wanted my water broken to get things moving (I was 3 cm at this point and 80% efaced) OR have a C-sections since we weren't sure why his heart rate kept dropping. Instead of having him struggle and risk anything further I opt'd for the c-section since labor I was told could take around an hour for each additional cm of dialation and who knows how the baby could handle that. So that was at 7:30am by 8:07 am Camden was here!! Beatiful and healthy!! 6 lbs 15 oz and 20 inches long.
He is doing great with breast feeding now... it was a struggle since it takes a bit longer for milk to come in following a c-section. What a full time job that is!! But now he is eatting like a champ (milk started coming in yesterday) and hopefully regaining his weight. My nurses were all a great help with this.. many a feeding I felt like giving up the baby was frustrated and I was frustrated but we made it through it. Breast feeding is an amazing experience. tomorrow morning. So much work but ALL WORTH IT!! What an amazing journey!!! WE see Camden's ped. tomorrow for his first check up!
By the way, we were told by one of our (amazing and SO helpful) nurses that only about 8% of babies are actually born on their due dates!
