Microfiber towels for added absorbancy?

Has anyone cut up microfiber towels and repurposed them for diaper inners and/or soakers? My DH has some that he uses to wash his car and I was thinking of snatching one for an experiment. I would cover them with flannel, of course, since I've read it's bad for baby's skin to be in contact with microfiber.

So here's the backstory behind this whole thing...

My DD suddenly became an ultra-mega-supersoaker : and I'm looking for ways to prevent her from soaking through all six of her wraps every day (we currently use prefolds).

I'm tossing around the idea of making some fitteds with the Very Baby pattern I have, but want them to be trim. I'm also thinking about just adding a doubler/soaker to the prefolds we're using but obviously don't want her bubble butt – as cute as it is*– to get even bigger! I'd like to incorporate microfiber for absorbancy and trimness...

What do you think?

I think that would probably work. However, I have found the best way to keep microfiber from getting the -stink- that most people end up getting is to leave it as a towel and trifold and use it as a pocket insert. You could make some pocket fitteds and then trifold the towels and stuff them in the pocket. My ds is a super soaker too (started around the same age as your dd) and this works pretty good for him. I would HIGHLY recommend the costco auto towels over the target or walmart ones, though. Those seem to be thicker and more absorbant. Or if you don't have a costco membership, I've heard the Sams Club towels are pretty good too. If you do get the costco ones, you may have to trim the length down some though, but you can just do a quick zigzag over the edge and that should work fine. HTH!!!!

Thanks for the great advice! We happen to already have the Costco towels already, so it's good to hear that they work well. I like the idea of pocket fitteds... I'll definitely be giving this a try!

i actually use microfiber towels exclusively now. I'm cheap , and I just cant see paying $4+ per insert, plus shipping.
I only have one DS in a diaper at night, and he does just fine with 3 MF towels tri-folded.

I have cut MF towels and use them as layers in fitteds and AIOs along with flannel. I haven't had any problems with stink. But then, I haven't had any problems with the microfiber smelling in general...I'm a little : that people apparently have trouble with it retaining smells.

I do second the pocket fitted idea, though. I prefer pocket fitteds to regular fitteds, because they dry so much faster and seem to get cleaner in general.

The only problem I've found with MF is that it has a tendency to "squish" the liquids back out of itself under pressure (much like a sponge). So I always make sure to use at least one layer of cotton with my MF to hold on to the "overflow". MF is good for absorbing quickly, but doesn't have long-term-holding power.

I thought I was the world genius, coming up with pocket fitteds. I'm so dissappointed now. I just spent the day designing them and everything.
