post-HSG yeast infection???

A question for all you HSG graduates...

I had an HSG yesterday (tubes all clear! ). My OBGYN said I could expect a brown discharge from the betadine, but...

TMI alert

Today, I found it difficult to check CM/CP - I seem to be swollen and dry (I usually have some moisture, even on sticky/creamy CM days).
The "CM" that I did collect was unlike anything I've ever seen before... brownish-white, chunky/crumbly : .
This is not sticky CM. This is quite different, more like like tiny wads of wet paper .
Is it a yeast infection (I've never had one before, and I guess you could describe this as "cottage cheese")?
Anyone experience anything like this after an HSG?

Funny, i got a yeast infection (the first one in almost 10 years) after my HSG a few months back. I never had any of that gel stuff they use discharge, i actually got a bit worried about that. The yeast infection didn't show up until about a week later, though.

I wouldn't worry about it really, a lot of women on another infertility forum I'm on have had similar issues immediately following their HSG. My AF following my HSG was funky too, and had a "different" smell".

I also had some swelling the next few days, but I attributed that to my doc being VERY rough with my cervix . She couldn't get the dye to stay in, so instead of gently snugging the balloon in the catheter down, she yoinked on it HARD.

So.... I would just keep watching, and be gentle with the tissues for the next couple of days. Maybe record your CP and CM as "obscured" or footnote your chart?

Then if you still have itching/swelling/discomfort after you have AF and you KNOW things should be good and flushed out, go for a script? Until then, you could do/increase probiotics. Lots of plain yogurt, etc.

Hey, thank you to both of you for your insight. In the interest of creating a record : for anyone else who has had or will have this lovely experience, here's an update...

TMI alert

Today I seem to have a combination of things going on. There's still some of the chunky wadded paper stuff, but there's also plenty of EWCM. I'm less swollen, so that's a relief.

: ymw!

Oh the icky stuff we go through to try for a baby.

Glad you are feeling better!

I had to start taking antibiotics a few days before my HSG so now I am on the lookout for a YI! I forgot to take probiotics at the same time.

The doc was super rough with my cervix too. He kept apologizing but my cervix was closed so tight that he had to grab it with an instrument and force the catheter through. He kept saying, "I'm usually done by now and I still can't get this catheter in."

And I can say is OUCH. I am still in pain today. Feels like someone scrambled up my insides but I think it's my poor cervix that I am feeling!

I was sore and shaky right after my HSG test, took Tylenol and a nap, and went to a faculty party that evening.

The next morning I started puking and continued for several days afterwards. I was weak and could not hold anything down. It was awful. I was such a mess that DH took off of work to take care of me. I have no idea if it was a reaction to the dye, the antibiotic, or what.

However, I conceived DD that cycle She was absolutely worth it.

Best of luck to you.

Yikes, some rough MDs out there! My doc was okay, not rough, but still, it's not natural to have someone put a plastic tube into your cervix. I'm sure they know what they're doing, but even so, I think it's strange to just allow the dye, and whatever debris flushes out, to "spill" into your abdominal cavity.

In any event, the probiotics (well, large quantities of yogurt) seemed to have helped, because I'm completely clear of whatever that post-HSG stuff was.

And it is good to know that my tubes are clear. The things we'll do....

I keep wondering what affect this dye has...I have been having waves of nausea for days. It might be the antibiotic but I usually don't get nauseous on this antibiotic. I was also having pain on my left side after the HSG - that is the tube that is dilated/blocked so I think a lot of dye was in my tube and hurting.

I am really starting to think that this dye can cause a reaction. It leeked out of me for days (it was clear though).

I am still a little sore today (3 days out).

I am glad I came here - I have exectly the same expirience as sweetpea - white, wet tissue paper looking stuff. I think it's yeast infection (it feels like one). I hope it's normal.

Unfortunately one of my tubes is blocked.

I had weird, kind of hard-ish white stuff the day after, and freaked out thinking it was a yeast infection. Nope, normal dye aftermath, and it was gone the next day.

white chunky discharge is the HSG contrast dye

i found this thread via google b/c i'm having the same problem: white, dry, pasty, chunky discharge 2 & 3 days post HSG. these forums are so speculative that i decided to call my dr to play it safe and wanted to share the feedback with others who may be in this situation in the future. she told me that it is the water based contrast opaque dye that was used in the hsg. there is no infection, simply the dye that was left behind. i did not have this come out on its own in my underwear, but discovered it when i was trying to conceive and freaked out when my husband had it all over his 'anatomy' when i turned on the light. i really would have appreciated this warning from the radiologist b/c they told me about everything BUT this possibly happening. they said the dye would be absorbed into my system &/or come out w/ urinating which apparently did NOT happen. the dr also said that it would not interfere with conception, which seems counter-intuitive b/c there's so much of it & it's so dry and thick. i'll trust her, but i don't understand how an HSG can improve the chances of conception b/c it flushes mucus gunk out of my tubes if this thick congealed contrast dye is left behind. ? i'll just hope that this stuff isn't blocking my tubes now too. anyhow, it's 100% the contrast dye. i tried to get as much of it out as possible with my finger and water. it's really stuck onto my internal tissue. really gross.

I treated myself for a yeast infection after my HSG. Nobody warned me and the OBGYN even gave me an RX! I did the same exact thing, I went to check my CM and it felt swollen and I could pull cottage cheese like clumps out of me. Nothing was in my underwear and they felt so stiff and dry I felt like if I didn't go in there and pull them out they would just stay there.

My contrast didn't feel so water-based. It was sticky like sap.
