This... er... interesting subject came up with a friend this morning and we had to look up on wiki just what was involved. So now i'm wondering how common this is, how PAINFUL this is and how embarrassing it is.

Discuss.

Well, I didn't vote in the poll because there wasn't really an option that fit me. I'd do it if I was ever willing to shell out the money for it. It's $75-$100 around here. I get regular bikini waxes during the summer when we're going to the pool all the time. I don't think it hurts too much. I also would never be embarrassed about getting it done. I've worked in a spa, and people who work in that industry are typically very professional.

I don't understand the point of them.

It didn't hurt THAT much, but it didn't get all the hair, it grew back immediately, and I got this horrific ingrown hair that left a scar. Definitely not worth the 75 bucks.

Do it at home--less painful, no embarrassment, and you can stop if you feel like it.

I would never do it - the thought makes me want to shudder in pain. Besides, I would never wear anything that would necessitate a Brazilian!

Not in a million freakin' years.

I'm oddly intrigued by the thought but much too scared to try it. I think I was a masochist in a past life...

Yikes, really?! I tried a regular, run-of-the-mill bikini wax at home and got nowhere fast.

I've had a brazilian (once). It was a little painful but a technician was able to do brazilian 100x faster than I could do a regular bikini wax on my own. I also didn't find it embarassing, though I credit the wax technician for that.

I get horrible bikini rash/ingrown hairs from shaving so I stick to being hairy or splurge on depilatories or waxing (rare due to $$$).

Couldn't vote - you didn't have my option: "what the heck is Brazilian waxing?"

I like my hair, thankyouverymuch.

But yes - in a past life - I've done such at home.
Not me anymore.

I voted love it, because I...well I LOVE it. I did it for the first time this past pregnancies, and though I am quite hairy down there now, I can hardly wait to start getting it done again.

Brig, tell me if this getting into the TMI realm but... how? I've tried wax at home, and the results were not pretty, I was "sticky" for a week, and my bathroom looked like the Keystone Cops raided a candle factory.

I generally shave the whole situation, daily, but have gotten lax since my last pregnancy and am considering shelling out for the Brazilian.

There was no other for me "used to do it not aymore though"

I used to get a full brazilian all the time when i was younger. I was the only one who even got it at Aveda for years. Probably from 16-24 i kept a brazilian and also kept my pits waxed. I started doing it because I did gymnastics and taught and those leotards do not cover much and i always get razor burn. Once i got pg though i stopped.

It hurt me a lot and was very embarressing the first few times. AFter getting a full brazilian though you are not embarressed at they gyno!

there's no option for tried it, but I can take it or leave it. I've had it done but don't really care one way or the other. I prefer a razor over waxing. don't think I could do a brazillian at home - I used to wax my arm pits myself though. I like to call that transcendence through pain.

I didn't think it was embarrassing at all. the aesthetician (did I even come close to spelling that right?) was very professional. I'm generally a very shy/modest person, but I figure she sees crotches all day long!

I love how it looks but it is VERY painful.

I did it while pregnant for the 1st time and while it hurt a bit, it's not that bad at all, and I wasn't even sore by the time I got off the table.

I wish there were an option for "like" it. I like the nice clean feeling once it's done, but my fuzz grows back too fast for it to be worth it.

Laser, laser, laser.

There wasn't an option for me either. I got it done, it wasn't that painful (hello, endorphins!), it was fun and I liked it, but I don't think I'd get it done again. It just wasn't THAT much cooler than shaving and I'm over that part of my life where I'd want to shave it all off in the first place. I barely shave my legs now, yk?

ETA: I didn't find it embarrassing at all.

My sis does sugaring, and while I haven't done a Brazilian yet, I'm working my way up to it, at her suggestion. A little at a time, she says. I get the sister discount too, so price isn't an issue. As for embarrassment, well, she's my sister, so it's not really a problem. We're comfortable with each other.
