Girl/Boy Scout questions - Page 3

My DD did Brownies last year and I was a volunteer leader. I think a lot of what they do depends on the leaders. It's pretty much up to them.
They definately teach the be nice to people and be helpful stuff though and they do mention God- but nothing specific about religion.
The trips are fun- my DD made a bunch of friends. The kids had about 15 minutes of run around time- weather permitting- before the meetings so that was good :-)
Also, I brought the baby with me to every meeting and nursed him there (although in a different room because he's always been a tad distracted by 15 screaming girls LOL) The point of that was- no one ever asked me to close the door or anything and girls would be in and out when they were done with their craft and doing "free play" while everyone else finished so maybe I normalized BFing for a couple of them LOL

We won't be joining Boy Scouts. I'm not morally opposed to Spiral Scouts, but the impression I have is that they teach the Pagan faith, and since we're not Pagan, we won't do that either. I'm pinning my hope on 4-H, and our church has a scouting-type program that we might do if my son really wants the scouting kind of thing.

actually, we have a a wiccan family, a UU family, an athiest family, and a pagan family in our spiral group. I think the focus of the group would depend on who is running it, but in spiral scouts there is supposed to be more tolerance for minority faiths. We don't do pagan rituals. Our activities are about celebration and respect for the earth. For example our last meeting consisted of making fall leaf decorations and then we had a drum circle. And no, we weren't dancing naked in a circle.

I wouldn't let my boys join the Boy Scouts either, for the same reasons stated by other posters. While I understand that individual troups make exceptions, I wouldn't let my kids join the KKK Scouts just because the local troup left out all the racist stuff, know what I mean? I won't even buy Boy Scout popcorn over this.
