Washable Wool - why not?

I've seen that there are particular wool covers that can be washed... and then others that are hand washed only?

Of course, I'd love to be able to throw in the machine! Why doesn't everyone choose that instead? Is there a difference in all the types of wool?

What is your favorite?

I will never put my wool in the

washing machine again because it did shrink, not a lot but enough to make me freak out!! I had some large covers that are now mediums. Thank goodness they were not my FUZ!! I hand wash everything now, never again in that horrid shrinking machine.

Most washable wool is treated with someting called "superwash" which is a resin that is put on the wool to coat it and stop it from shrinking. Some have also noted that the resin can make the cover leak over time (although this doesn't seem to happen to everyone, I wonder if it has something to do with how hard or soft you water is, and minerals reacting witht he resin) Anywho, a lot of people reject the washable covers sinply becuase of the resin, since they like wool because it's all natural

There are, however, other covers that are already felted that can machine washed and dried with no problem, and do not have the resin coating on them. The only one that comes to my mind right now is phunkymamas, but that's cause I know her, LOL! I'm sure there are others as well
