TSH test

I went to my ob/gyn to figure out why I can't get pg. She gave me a ten day supply of progesterone to stop my cycle and start it all over again, so on day 21 I can go in for testing. I'm scheduled to have a TSH 3rd gen. test, prolactin and a 21-day progesterone test. : Can anyone tell me what the TSH test will reveal??

Sure you don't mean FSH? That's usually done on day three....

TSH is the test for thyroid function, which could well be included in your bloodwork, but can be done at any time in your cycle. (erm... I think... mine has been done randomly....)

Thyroid function can effect fertility, I am slightly hypo myself, but exhibit pretty heavy symptoms. Sucks. Really.

Good luck!

I'm sure it's the TSH 3rd gen. test. I don't think that one specifically has to be done on day 21, it's just that the progesterone does, and so she's having me get that one done while I'm there.

: Heh, I read your OP wrong. Sorry! Instead of what you ACTUALLY typed, I read "TSH 3rd cycle day test"

So you mean actually what the difference is with the specific 3rd GENERATION TSH test?

I'm thinking that the significance of the 3rd gen. is that it is a newer, better, more sensitive test, that shows more of a range of "numbers" over a larger scale, giving the white coats a more accurate feel of how the thyroid is functioning.

I'm on a soapbox today, so please forgive me

If they're going to bother testing your TSH please make sure they check for thyroid antibodies. It's not just about the TSH level, in spite of what so many docs think........

Thanks! I'll ask them about that.
