m/c question

Thread Starter
Hi ladies,
I just found out my baby has died at 7w5d pregnant. I went in for an u/s because of some spotting and no heatbeat. I was prescribed cytoteck to help pass the fetus. A good friend who is also a doula said she had heard some pretty nasty side effects on this drug. First I'd like to hear any opinions on this and also what else I could do or use to help things more along.
thanks

I found out at 13 weeks that I had a blighted ovum, and opted for a d&c. My understanding is that cytotec is pretty "effective" when used on a m/c when its earlier.

I was still bleeding two weeks after the m/c, and my doc sent me home with 8cytotec tablets to try and get my uterus to contract and expel what was left, rather than face another d&c. I was expecting something horrible, but it wasn't as bad as I thouht it would be.

There are many, many options for you. If you're already spotting, you may be starting the process on your own, and not need the drug at all.

Most of the risks of cyctotec come when it is used on a full term mother to induce labor, or used on a woman with a higher than normal risk of uterine rupture- ie C section.

I'm so sorry for your loss. There's lots of info and support on the pregnancy and birth loss board.
