hi -amyjean here.
this is about Greg my dh, not me- but I need some help. HE is diabetic (type 2) treating with diet and exercise. His bloodsugar tonight, 2 hrs after dinner was 394. Dinner was MCD's.
his A1C from 2 weeks ago was 6.1- very good.
He did have a cortisol shot today for shoulder pain. Steriods are apparently not good for diabetics- they can raise blood sugar, so that coupled with the poor dinner is concerning us.
I talked to a nurse tonight who said we should call the doctor- but he is feeling tired (it is 1016pm) we both have a cold, and he was sweaty and very very pale.
any thoughts on what we should watch for or do would be greatlly appreciated.

The steroids are likely causing the high sugar. If it was injected in a joint, the effect on sugars often only lasts several days.
If he is feeling sweaty and what not, that sounds more like a low blood sugar issue - have him check again. If it is still high, but he is feeling okay, it is probably okay to wait until tomorrow and call the doc and find out if he needs a short term use of meds to keep the sugars down until the cortisol wears off.
If he is confused, visual changes, belly pain, elevated heart rate, continues to be clammy and/or shaky or otherwise doesn't appear stable to you, call the doc now.

thanks DrJen- I was hoping to hear from you.
He just tested his sugar and it was still high- 423 but he is feeling fine- not confused or anything.

How is he today? My DH is diabetic. If his BS was over 400 I'd bring him to the ER. With a sugar like that he is most likely dehydrated and needs monitored insulin.
