I talked to my OB's nutritionist but she had little info for me and seemed to think that we'd stop being vegetarian soon enough for some reason. Anyway, if you have any info about it or websites you know of that you could point me to, I'd be most grateful!

I was vegetarian through both pregnancies and didn't have any issues. I ate lots of beans and rice (I craved it almost daily), nuts, and I drank fruit smoothies with whey protein. Also, remember to try and eat iron rich foods.

I don't have any books to recommend specifically on pregnancy and vegetarianism, I just used vegetarian cookbooks and tried to make sure I was eating the right combinations of foods for max. protein intake.

Yep. I am lacto-ovo. Check out the Brewer's diet. He has a lacto-ovo option and a vegan option. I did not follow it in my last pregnancy, but I will in this one. As long as you are getting enough protein and vit B12 you will be just fine.

Also curious how everyone else is feeling.

And mostly, Hello!!! Nice to see some familar faces (names!!) here! Congratulations to everyone
Well, after today, I think just about everyone knows. I told a couple of close friends and asked them not to say anything. Unfortunately, I had no idea that they had big mouths . I just came out and posted on MySpace because I figured if I waited any longer, I wouldn't have anyone to tell.

I'm feeling tired and nausea at times. The m/s is not as bad as it was with ds. When I was pg with him, I threw up all day, every day for 6 mos and then it came back the last 6 weeks. I still managed to gain 70 pounds though. I'm not really sure how that happened:

Obviously DH knows (heh). And my sister who is living with us knows. And a friend because she was going to sell a sling that I wanted and, duh, why on earth would I want a sling at this point? haha. I think I'm going to wait for the first u/s to tell others, though. I kind of like having this little secret (and, really, I'm the WORST secret keeper).

I took a nap this afternoon and think I woke up a little warm because being warm is what makes me nauseous, and as I walked down stairs I ended up stumbling to the couch with a bottle of ice water and the overhead fan on. Dh walked in and said, "Are you ok?" and I just muttered, "Hot. Sick." Blech. But, in a twisted way, I enjoy the (small! here me? make them SMALL!) bouts of nausea because that keeps me from freaking out that it's all in my head. That, and the 5 positive HPT in my bathroom drawer.

Are any BF mama's going to take progesterone cream? I am considering it because I seem to be hot a lot and I read that is a sign of low progesterone. DS nurses so much I fear that I could really have low progesterone and I sort of fear a miscarriage.

Oh, and I have only told one person other than DH. A friend of mine is a doula and I wanted her suggestions on a midwife. I think we are going to wait for a bit. My good friend is going to have a baby soon and I don't want to take away from her moment.

Congrats, Lab80 and mamatotwo!

Thanks Jazzmin and Karen!

Dh knows, as well as 1 local friend, and 1 friend who lives far away. That's it. We're waiting until we see the heart beating on u/s to tell others. Except my 3 closest friends are coming over on Wed. evening. I don't know how I'm going to get through the evening keeping it a secret! We have another family that lives out of state, but that we are very close with that are due with their 3rd child in just a week or so. Unfortunately, their baby has Trisomy 18 and isn't expected to live very long. It is utterly heartbreaking... we're not sure when to tell them our news.

Jazzmin, I'm not bf'ing currently, but I am taking progesterone supplements (not cream, but suppositories). I didn't know about being warm/hot being a sign of low progesterone. Progesterone increases body temp (that is what causes the temps to rise on a bbt chart and temps fall as progesterone falls just as AF shows up; also progesterone falls just before labor -- it allows the uterus to contract) and essentially works as an incubator for the developing baby. I would think that being warm/hot would be a good sign?

Physically, I'm still feeling really great. I can't seem to sleep past 5am or so, so by evening I'm really tired, but during the day I don't seem unusually tired. I haven't been nauseous at all. My symptoms don't really start though until I'm about 6 weeks. I take that as 2 freebie weeks! :-)

I totally told everyone! I retook a test today to confirm. With my last pregnancy, it wasn't planned and I didn't want to tell anyone. With this one I am so excited that I can't contain myself!

I already feel bloated! Man, I hope I don't need maternity clothes soon! Last time I was 5 months before I wore any. I guess its time to go and break them out of the attic!

Interesting on the progesterone, I get what I can only describe as hot flushes, suddenly I am hot and take of my jersey only to be cold 10 min later. Now you have me wondering about this. Would the prog cream not further reduce BM supply though? I also seem to think that higher temps would indicate higher prog so getting hot should be fine...?
I agree, I think it may reduce supply. I don't know much about it.

I haven't told many people - my work (just in case I need days off in the worst case scenario), DH , 2 of my best friends, and 2 friends in my MOM's club. I've vowed everyone to secrecy and hopefully that'll hold until I have an u/s at 10w to make sure this baby is sticking around for a while.

Wholy Cow!!!!

OMG. You are never going to believe this. I think I am back in the game.

As many of you recall, my HCG levels last Monday (1 week ago) had dropped slightly to 30 after plateauing at 36. After that value of 30, the doctors told me it was over. I had demanded progesterone when my levels plateaued and they reluctantly gave it to me, but at a dose of 1 suppository per day (the drug manufacturer recommends 2 - 3 times per day). So last Monday, when my levels dropped, I upped my dose on my own to 2 times a day. Last Fridays HCG level was 87, still low but rising.

Today's.... 270!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This just goes to show you: go with your gut, stand up for yourself, YOU are your best advocate.

I am still scared about the possibility of an ectopic and worried that something may have happened to the embryo when my levels dropped. If my levels keep rising, then they will do an ultasound. I sure hope we see a baby, and not just the sack.

So, if you don't mind, I am sending out a prayer request that this child may be healthy and with our family in June, despite its slow start. Many thanks and sending sticky vibes to all.

ChesapekeBorn...sending good vibes your way

DS still nurses, but I've had an oversupply ever since he was born so I'm not really sure if I will have supply problems. I have noticed he has been biting more lately though, and at 11 months old and 8 teeth that is painful! Especially with sore nipples due to the pg! I was thinking it may be due to a low supply, or maybe since I am pg the taste may have changed? Any thoughts?

OMG Chesapeake that's the best thing I've heard all day! I am just elated for you. Way to stick to your guns. Maybe we should call you Dr. Chesapeake.

Man what I wouldn't do for over supply issues! I know people with them have such a hard time, but I have never had quite enough milk!

Yay ChesapeakeBorn that's great!!!

Chesapeake, :

If I count me and my DH the number of people who know is 4 (because my mom and my aunt know). Otherwise we have told nobody and it's going to stay that way for awhile. Other people would consider it selfish but I'm just adoring this pregnancy and want to keep it as close as I can for as long as possible. That way I don't have to deal with to many people if anything happens.

Welcome back! I sent you a prayer!

Also - I know that it is impossible not to worry, but one thing that you might want to tuck in the back of your mind is that it might happen to a lot of pregnancies to have a plateau/dip in hcg with everything then proceeding normally. You just happened to be monitoring yours; whereas lots of women don't have any idea (me, for example) where their hcg levels are at. All that to say, you noticed because you were looking, but lots of people have never looked. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!!

Chesapeak- I am sending positive baby vibes your way.

As for the hot flashes and high progesterone, I may be wrong. I thought being hot meant that you had too much estrogen. Now that I think about it, you don't get hot flashed until your estrogen starts to drop. I will need to look into in more because I am definitely really hot sporadically through out the day.

My memory is going!!! With DS2 I was constantly loosing my words and train of thought. It is starting again. I am so forgetful lately. I am going to have to do brain exercises religiously.

I looked online at a few sites and they said that a surge or drop of a variety of hormones can cause hot flashes. Guess that doesn't help much.
