DS 34 months had IV sedation this morning and had 2 crowns and a filling...we have been home for about 2 hours and he has a fever of 100.9....i'm very concerend...i called the ped. dentist...talk directly to her and she said this is not normal however suggested giving him tylenol and keeping an eye on him....why would he have a fever..he was fine this morning before he went in....oh i'm so worried about him...he's nursed for the past hour and is fussy and can't seem to get comfortable...any ideas as to why he's got a fever?

He could be coming down with a virus, there have been a lot of sick kids around here already. And you know how fast kids can go from being fine to being sick and feverish! So hopefully it's just a coincidence.

I hope he's feeling better soon!!

Oh poor lil guy.
I have no advice. Keep a close eye on him.

I hope the dental part went well.

Did he get silver crowns?
If so, can I see a pic of them.
My son may need one on his first molar.

we had the same thing yesterday - no IV though, but nitrous oxide and novocaine. All day dd is pretty much fine, wasn't quite clear as to when novocaine wore off but no biggie - except her lip was swollen, either because she bit it while it was numb or maybe some side effect of the novocaine??? I don't know but I didnt worry ... till just before bed she felt hot. I didnt take temp but she looked pretty out of it and I worried about whether she had some reaction to the novocaine, some infection from the procedure, or lowered resistance and therefore caught a cold. But I gave her some water, opened the window a crack and we went to sleep. She was fine this morning. So far, so good. keep our fingers crossed. We have to go back next week and do this again <sigh>

My dentist told me a fever is not normal after procedure. So either, 1) he is coming down with something anyway or 2) his gums got infected from the crowns being put on. I would see how he is tomorrow and go from there.

He got 2 stainless steel crowns...i can get a pic..but we ae very busy today..if you google stainless steel crowns..i'm sure a pic will come up....he is doing much better today...low grade fever..not enough to effect him..he slept great last night..nursed a few times....he say's his mouth does not hurt. He was very fussy for about 3 hours after the procedure...crying uncontrolable...would not sit still...rolling aorund on me and the floor...they said that was normal coming off of the iv sedation...he never cries..so it was so hard on me to hear him cry like that...but he's fine now.

Is it his top molar or bottom molar?

My 3 yo is getting one on his first top molar next Friday. My 9 yo has one on one of her top molars, maybe the second one. I've never noticed that one. I'm not sure how much I'll notice my 3 yo's one. I never noticed the cavity there so I guess I don't see that tooth much.

To the OP: Glad your little guy is doing better today!
