Urinary Tract Infection and Probiotics

I have a UTI, I did a UA today and it was positive for lueks. I thought it would be positive. I have not had any burning, but feel like I need to pee constantly and can't always go. I have decided to take an ATB. I know that is controversial, but I am going to do it. I have had plenty of cramping and contractions over the last 2 weeks and I know that a UTI is the #1 cause of preterm labor. I am due Nov. 11, 07.

I want to take a probiotic but the bottle in my frigde is expired since 2/07. Should I take it or should I buy new? Where and what specifically should I get. I have metagenics brand right now.

Any natural remedies suggestions for my UTI.

Despite pregnancy warnings on encapsulated Uva Ursi, Uva Ursi is considered *the* specific herbal for UTIs in pregnancy. That being said I've seen much faster results from eating consuming cranberries or their juice alongside fresh or frozen pineapple or its juice (not canned or pasteurized.) IME the indicated homeopathic remedy will show faster results yet but unless you know someone who can find the indicated remedy, you'll get faster results with the pineapple/cranberry combination.

I'm intrested to see what others say about this. I have had recurrent UTI's for as long as I can remember. When not pg, I'm on an antibiotic that I'm suppose to take after intercourse but I don't take it while pg unless I have a raging infection. Would taking probiotics daily help keep them away?

When I had a UTI early in this pregnancy, my mw said "flush and acidify." Meaning: drink tons of water (with lemon if you want) and take acidophilus. I took crandophilus which is acidophilus and cranberry. I also drank straight, unsweetened cranberry juice. That's hard to get down, but it does help. Also, nettles are a soothing herb that will help if you have pain when urinating.

Ya know, I had great luck with homeopathic treatments for my uti. I tend towards naturopathic and/or allopathic medicine, not homeopathic generally. But I was desperate and knew I couldn't wait to get antibiotics from a doc. But it worked!! The relief was immediate, too. I used Belladonna.
