Paying for homebirth

How does everyone pay for their homebirths?

It's looking like I may go through Homefirst which I hear quotes of $2-5k out of pocket not to mention what my insurance covers.

Our deductible we will have to pay if I stick with this doctor I hear will be $1200+ when it kicks in in November.

Do you get loans? Where from? How do you shop for a credit card? We have one which is maxed, so it's out. I want to pay it all off with tax returns, but we would have until November to come up with the money and the baby is due in December. Cutting our budget is not an option. We are only going to end up having ~$100 for xmas, and very, very little for all the baby supplies we need (even buying used ~$300), and there is no more room for cutting.

I had a UC so mine was free

But one thing you can do is shop thrift shops for deals, and resell on Ebay. Go through your house and see if you have anything you can sell too.

Our midwife let us pay her a little bit each month throughout my pregnancy, and then wrote up an itemized receipt for my insurance to reimburse us. Maybe it would help to break up the cost a little by paying some now, and the rest later?

I know that homebirth costs vary a lot by geographic location. In our city, the going rate is $2-2.5K. I found a WONDERFUL mw in a rural area outside the city for $1K. I like her much better than anyone else I interviewed, but she does live an hour away from me. If you are in a city, perhaps start looking outside the city to see what you can find.

if you knew insurance would pay you back, you could get a new card at 0% interest, charge it to pay the midwife, and then when the insurance check comes, pay it right off. (your answer to "how" is googling "0% credit card")

I think that's a good option. I get offers for cards all the time, but I'm not the money-winner, so I don't know if I can even apply for them. Or what credit limit we would get.

Our insurance would cover all the doctor charges, but we would be using homefirst, so they have a $2000 "concierge fee" for using them that they don't charge your insurance/insurance won't cover on top of that, so it would be between $2-5k (varying reports) out of pocket.

I used our tax return, luckily we got a lot back last year.
