Water bottle for school?

I don't know if this is where I should post this...

I need to get a reusable bottle for DS to take to school with his lunch. With all these issues with Chinese made products, and BPA in baby bottles, I'm feeling a little paranoid. I checked out the website for Sigg bottles, but I don't know if I like the fact that they won't tell you what they're lined with.

So, what do you use? How did you decide?

We use the Nalgene water bottle with the "camel back" feature (essentially a flip top with straw). Nalgene plastics don't leach of break down in water, they're light weight and at $10 each, I'm not going to flip eveytime it gets lost at school ($10 lost is easier to swallow than $30).

Have you checked out Klean Kanteen? These are made only from stainless steel.

We have the Kleen Kanteen. All of us prefers the 18 oz bottle. Nobody wants to use the 27 oz one for some reason. So, I just bought four more of the 18 oz ones.

The sigg has fun prints though.

We love our Sigg bottles. The new sport cap is especially well-designed (though I don't think the kid bottles come with those).

Andy and I both have SIGG bottles and I love them. Cool designs, made in Switzerland, sturdy enough to withstand being thrown onto pavement by a toddler, overall definitely worth the $16.

Dc has a Klean Kanteen.

Used to use Sigg but a funky smell kept happening in it. Blech.

Have to get another though (dc's preschool makes us pack two separate bags. One for morning snack and one for lunch. It's a pain in the bum.

I've been wondering about the sports cap on KK but don't know if it leaks.

I too use the SIGGs. www.reuseablebags.com is having a closeout sale on some of them right now, so you could save some money that way since they're not cheap!

I checked out Kleen Kanteen and reusablebags.com - I had never seen either one before! I like that the Kleen Kanteens are just stainless steel. I may go with that one if I can find a good deal.

My DD loves her naglene camel back. It has been in her lunch bag every school day this year and has not leaked yet.
She used to have a sigg and would not get the top all the way closed so it leaked alot, and the paint is chipping off and I emailed the company 2 times to see if I should be concerned and have not heard back.

Unfortunately, it's recently come to light that Nalgene may leach something into the water.

My kids use SIGGs, we also have several Klean Kanteen bottles too.

We use Klean Kanteens...

12 oz. bottles, with the flat cap. It's enough to get my second grader through the day, she just uses the water fountain if she gets thirsty otherwise.

We also use Klean Kanteen. I chose that rather than the SIGG because the lining might eventually break down. I figure the stainless steel is the safest way to go.

And yes, Nalgene does eventually break down. When I found that out, I was very bummed!

: DS1 LOVES his. I looked at the Klean Kanteen, but the tops make a loud squeaking noise when you screw/unscrew them. That kind of stuff drives me batty! I really *want* to like them, so I may still try one for myself at some point.

We also are Sigg fans... I have a big 1L for me, a 750ml sports bottle for DS, and a .3L for DD (instead of a sippy cup). The little bottles don't come with the sports top but you can buy tops separately and mix&match to your heart's content!

I'm not too concerned about the lining, I'm trusting that it's safe and prefer that to the straight metal... Maybe it's just me but I get the 'nails on the chalkboard' feeling thinking about acidic or fizzy liquids in contact with the straight metal heh...


We don't do school but DS uses his EVERYWHERE he goes, and even takes it in to bed with him at night. That was a good idea, because he stops whining in the middle of the night that he 'needs water', and it won't spill everywhere, etc. (He sleeps in a loft bed so can't even just use a nightstand)
