May "06 mamas, week of 9/23/07 - Page 2

on TV=I let Orion watch Sesame St. My mother freaked out about it while she was here. Yeesh. It's not like I'm feeding him crack every morning, though by the way she acted it was as though I was.

Hey mamas,

We're still hanging in here, though barely. I got sick again on Sun/Mon with some kind of stomach thing and the worst headache I've ever had. This was following an incredibly tense day with MIL where she gave us these gems:

-- Geo is too fat
-- He is also not eating enough (???)
-- His cholesterol is probably too high because he likes cheese
-- His cloth diapers are giving him bowed legs
-- It's weird and wrong that I'm still bfing him

She also tried to force-feed him and when I wanted to take him home because he was exhausted and melting down TOOK HIM AWAY from me, into the kitchen, where she tried to trick him into eating more of the food she cooked. She also yelled at me to stop giving him banana when he refused what she had made for lunch. (What am I supposed to do? Make him go hungry because he doesn't want what she made???)

I'm trying really hard not to snap at her and I'm literally making myself sick over it. And the best part (not) is that they're coming to stay HERE for the rest of the week and I don't know how I'm gonna stand it. It's so sad, she adores Geo but I almost hate her because of her insinuations and weirdness.

Btw, we saw the ped, Geo weighs 28 lbs and is 30ish inches tall and perfectly on his curve.

Yesterday we had to do a blood draw for lead testing for Geo. It went as well as can be expected, they found the vein on the first try and it only took a minute, but Geo was hysterical. Poor baby. It's only Tuesday and it's already been a rough week.

Blue Lotus: love the new name! Very pretty.

Mia, hope you feel better.

Max, we've had some social events like that, too. Like every meal since the ILs have arrived.

wfuteach: Geo is TV-free and DH and I almost never watch it. It's never been an issue for us.

gnutter: So glad you are ok!!! What an ordeal! And I'm sorry Wyatt weaned and can understand how sad you must feel. He must be so happy his mama is back and feeling better, though.

ecoteat: Local food day sounds so neat! I love that idea.

BBM, the candlelight walk in the old village sounds so fun, I love that kind of thing. I also love tootsie rolls and would definitely walk 16 blocks to get some!

TXmom, I agree with having a bit of a schedule. It makes both Geo and I feel good to know more or less what is coming next. It's definitely not a minute-by-minute thing, but we're both happier and better rested when he gets a nap early enough in the day and for long enough stretches.

Well, best finish tidying up before the ILs arrive. I'm just almost ill at the thought of having to deal with her day and night for the next five days. I never wanted this kind of relationship with my MIL, but it's like she's not capable of being normal!!

It looks like posts aren't showing up again... on the main toddler page it says Mary has posted last and the numbers are wrong. I wonder if this will show up?

Anyway, I wanted to share a couple cute things Phoebe has been doing this week. She has started nursing her toys! First she was putting them up to my boob and making her little pretend eating/sucking noise. Yesterday she put her stuffed horse to her chest, and this morning...she nursed a rock! Also she has apparently figured out the concept of "two." Whenever she has 2 of something, she proudly holds one in each hand and announces, "two!" When you say, "how many feet do you have?" she holds up her feet (if she's sitting down, of course) and says, "two!" When she's nursing, she pulls up the other side of my shirt so she can see both boobs and then yells, "two!" 16 months is SO much fun.

Mia & Kelly - don't worry about the name bit, i'm not! I know you will remember with time! This is my favorite embarrassed smilie: :

So I feel like I am catching a small cold (though hopefully dd doesn't!), which is my first since February or so. I'm not thrilled about it and EXHAUSTED!! I get really crabby when I am exhausted too, and I don't like that about myself very much, but the best I can do is try to bite my tongue and get some sleep!

On another side note, C fell asleep for a late nap at 4:20 pm last night, and didn't wake up until abot 6:30!!! I was all set for her to wake up when we went to bed, or in the middle of the night. I'm SO relieved she didn't!

Over the weekend we went to the state fair to show dd the animals. She had a blast! The alpacas were her biggest favorite, and they thought she was pretty fascinating too (and they pretty much ignored all the other kids we saw running around)!!

: So, my last post seems to have disappeared. Weird! If anyone sees it, please feel free to quote it, so it reappears! This board is so screwy today! :

Yeah, blue lotus your posts are going crazy on here...lol And I did happen to notice that your # of posts was 666...how freaky!! Yesterday, Austin had wart surgery on his toe and I promised him ice cream when he was done, so when the ice cream was rung up at the register the total was 6.66.....I quickly changed my order!!

Well, I have a cold and it seems like every time I get my teeth cleaned at the dentist I get a cold...weird, huh? I am going to make breakfast now....

Hi everyone. It is a beautiful fall day here. I am just lovin' it! Fall is one of my favorite seasons. I am hoping we can get some fall camping in before it gets too cold. We haven't been able to go for weeks w/all the remodeling going on. That is nearing completion, TG, but still has a ways to go. Yesterday our electrician was having some trouble w /a light & started losing his mind - all kinds of F's being thrown around. I was really glad my big kids weren't home. It made me pretty uncomfortable. Luckily he's almost done. Oh, and we have one really cute guy. That makes it interesting!

Kelly about the TV, I do let my kids watch some, but I am pretty definate about what is allowed. When older kids are in the mix, the TV issue gets a lot harder. We have times of the day where I allow it, usually mornings when there are suitable children's shows on, and never in the afternoons/evenings when there aren't.

Yeah, I was having posting issues. I tried posting one yesterday am, and it appeared today like 6 times! : Then my posts in this thread kept disappearing. Weird. But now it seems to be fixed. :

Hevyne - it's a good thing i'm not too superstitious about numbers. Although there was a lot of weirdness with my posts recently...

We are pretty much tv-free around C because she is WAY too interested in it, always has been. So we watch the shows we are interested in & movies while she naps (about 1-2 hours a day, but I also do stuff on the computer then). Admittedly, i'm not thrilledwith her *hearing* the stuff while she sleeps, because I believe that some of it probably filters into her subconscious, but i'm not totally ready to go tv-free just yet. I like my sci-fi channel and bad B-movies too much :
Marylizah...ugh, that sounds stressful! My MIL and FIL definitely think we're weird (no bottles? no jarred food? baby allowed IN BED with you?!? no Sesame Street?), but they don't interfere much.

Gretchen...s It sounds like you've been though quite a bit lately!

Kelly...no TV here. We actually don't even get any TV service. We have a little 15-inch in a closet that we use once a month or so to watch a movie.

Amy...dd nursed one of her dolls recently, too. I thought it was the cutest thing ever!

I too am a bit worried about dd's nutrition. She still nurses at least 7 or 8 times in 24 hours, but food prep is so hard with all the allergies--I hate to cook and absolutely everything she eats has to be made from scratch. What she does eat is pretty healthy--brown rice cakes, brown rice pasta; millet; organic plain yogurt; a little raw cheese; organic turkey and beef; Irish oatmeal; avocado (tons); melon (tons); apples, bananas, blueberries; broccoli, carrots; some cauliflower; sweet potatoes; pears; plus some more fruits and veggies; allergen-free waffles now and then--but I just worry that she's not eating enough solid food. It's just much easier to nurse, yk. :

As for sleep: Dd sleeps through the night many nights and is mostly nightweaned. Sometimes she wakes and dh will go in to rock her back to sleep...although now that she's learned that she can call "mama" and I'll come running, she usually ends up nursing instead. Her normal routine is to go to bed at 7:30, wake at around 5, then nurse and come to bed with us for an hour or two. The past week, though, 5 has moved to 4, which is not so fun. :

Definitely . I'm glad you're on the mend with your health. That's very scary food poisoning .

You're such a sweetie max *smooch*. I haven't done much and really need to be doing a lot more for this and so many other things. This world makes it so hard sometimes . My family and I will not be complacent though!

TV: We have it on sometimes at night and DS might check it out a minute or two but he usually just runs around playing .

alaskaberry I started locking about three months ago and oh do I love it . How long have you had yours?

Amanda DS is allergic to cow's milk and legumes . He's also reeeeeeeeeally picky . It's super hard to find things for him to eat so we have to get creative .

There was other stuff I wanted to say and other personals I wanted to do but I can't remember what : . Ah well, toodles all! Have a great Tuesday!

Finally I get to post!!! It WAS wonky on here yesterday!!!

We are well here, we've *so far* been spared from all the sicky crap that's been going around. Rachel had a cold for a couple weeks, and now Emma is getting over one. But, *knock-on-wood* Alayna hasn't had anything yet. Today she is cranky, and wanting to nurse alot, so I think she's either getting a tooth, or a cold.: Yesterday it was hot and MUGGY, and now today it is about 55 and cloudy outside.: I love Mn weather!!!!

It's a busy week here, tonight DH is bowling (he plays on a league every Tuesday night) and tomorrow night he'll be gone, Thursday I have a PTA meeting, and Friday night DH and I are going to a SheDaisy concert. (they are country for those of you who don't know them. ) I'm soooo excited to see them! And then this weekend is Duck hunting opener, so DH is thrilled about that. I think the girls are I will go to our town's arts festival on Saturday. We'll see how the weather is.

Max- I totally hear ya, I have ZERO friends that I hang out with that are crunchy. It stinks. At least they all respect my way of parenting. GL with the house remodel, I couldn't imagine. We had our fireplace redone (the marble on it had warped, and was chipping some of the wood, and then I wanted a deepr mantel top) this morning, and they were only here for an hour and I was going crazy!!!:

ecoteat- Good luck with your night schedule. FINALLY Alayna is in a good spot with sleeping.

Alaskaberry- Good luck with the playdate. It would stink if you two didn't get along!!!

gretchen- I hope you're feeling better! How scary! And hugs to you about the nursing. But, just think of how long he got your milk, you should be so proud!!!

Blue Lotus- LOVE the new name!!! I always think of getting a new one too, we'll see.

Mia- Hope your feeling better, mama!!!!

Kelly- My older two watch TV, somedays they don't watch any, and other days it might be an hour or two, mainly Emma, when it's quiet time. But no TV for Alayna yet, I'm a bit of a stickler when it comes to watching TV under the age of two.

Hevyne- Hope your feeling better too!!

NYCVeg- I think her diet sounds perfect!! I wouldn't worry too much about. And you should be SOOOOO proud to where you've come with nursing!! To think of all the crap you had to go through, but you made it!!!

Marylizah- Mama, you are a SAINT!! A SAINT!!!! I could not imagine having to put up with a MIL like that. Can your DH set the rules for her when she comes?? Ugh, I will be praying HARD for you this week!!

Well I should finish some other stuff. Oh, and I think that last month I might have had a chemical pregnancy. I have been thinking alot about why I would have gotten two faint positives, and I think it was a chemical. My cycles have NEVER been longer than 30 days, and it was 34 last month, my temps stayed high until I started spotting. I never spot, I bleed right away. And my left breast completley dried up. I just wonder if that wasn't what it was. I didn't have any symptoms, except severe exhaustion. I know that I will never truly know if it was or not, but I can't imagine why I would have had two faint positives, and them both be wrong, kwim?? Anyway, just wanted to share.

Hi again. Yes, this posting thing is wonky today. I couldn't figure out what was going on for a while there.

Sydnee, it sounds like things are busy, but good for you. I'm glad. Enjoy your concert! And I hope the kids feel better soon. How's the daycare going? I hope you are feeling a little less burnt out these days. I could so relate to your post about it the other day.

MCB, I am going to PM you one of these days - my dh really wants to move to the Atlanta area. I'd love your opinion on the town in particular. Maybe we could be neighbors!!!!

Amanda, it sounds like your dd actually has a really good diet! All that plus bm, I'd say she is in good shape. Did you ever find anything out about your car? (Or do we still think Gretchen took it? )

MaryLizah, to you mama! That is one tough MIL!! Would it help if you all kept really busy when she is at your house? That might give her less time to try to interfere w/Geo. Maybe you need to sneak her some of Ecoteat's "special brownies".

Blue Lotus, love the new name. It's really beautiful. What made you chose it?

Hevyne, that is weird about the teeth cleaning/cold connection. I wonder if you could be allergic to something there?

Ecoteat, Phoebe's nursing story is too funny. For the longest time my dd(3) would nurse her babies from her belly button!

Gretchen, I hope you are continuing to feel better each day.

Mia, I hope you are better too mama.

Back to the babies! TTYL.

Music to our ears!!!
Nycveg--never thought you would hear yourself say it was easier to nurse HUH! Her diet sounds pretty good though. Allergies make it so hard to feel balanced I am sure.

maryliza---bow legs and cloth diapers--never even heard that one before :

ecoteat-I too, adore this age-they are so cute even when they are mad. Wyatt pretend eats things now-I know he got it from me when I would fake eat something slobbery he wanted to share with me. He thinks it is soooo funny.

I just know there is a super accounting person who would wnat to take my online test for me just joking. Anyway I should be getting ready-but I am so burned out from playing catch up. so here I am posting here instead.

Oh heres the great news of the week--I am getting a new sewing machine. mine is dying and the stitches are horrible. I am so amazed at what you can get in a sewing machine these days. Mine is like 13 yrs old and was a cheapo then. Now for $200 you can get the most amazing machines--compared to what I had anyway. So if we do anymore swaps I will probably be sewing something--I am so excited!!

Ah, the car! So, 3-4 weeks pass, and the insurance company finally considers it a total loss and cuts us a check. We use half of that check to pay my sister the rest of the money we owed her on the car. Then we go to lease another Camry (we didn't want to buy this time, for many reasons)...the Toyota dealers around here quote dh REALLY high prices. So, in a fit of pique, he goes to a luxury car dealer (I will refrain from mentioning which car--honestly, I find it embarassing ) and finds he can lease the car of his (tamer, more responsible) dreams for the same price for which he can get the Camry. So he does. The NEXT DAY the police call us and tell us that they found our car...it had been sitting in a gas station a few blocks from our house, untouched, for a month. Of course, now the insurance company owns it and we have a 3-year lease on our hands, so there's nothing to be done. But we're pretty annoyed b/c we purchased the car outright from my sister, so there were no monthly payments...now, not so much, plus we had to put a chunk of change down. Why o why would the gas station people let the car sit there for a MONTH and not get it towed. :

oh forgot to say
MIA~~I am totally loving your dinosaor boy pattern. I guess i will have to learn to crochet more than a square washcloth now.
NycVeg--we cross posted--that is totally crazy about your car. We bought our last vehicle outright and I know it would really bite to have to get stuck with payments. And now I really really want to know what kind of car he got

by the way while I am sitting here my 7 year old informs me that "all he wants" is a credit card, a new computer, and internet in his room :
WHo has he been hanging out with lately I wonder.

Oh, come on! We won't laugh or judge or anything! We once had a beautiful Saab that we got a great deal on. And before we moved to Maine, we were caretakers on an estate near Boston for an extremely wealthy woman who had TWO Mercedes--that she let us drive. Before driving one I never understood what the big deal was. Now I do!

Mary, I'm so sorry you have to put up with that crap again.

Gretchen--yay for new sewing machines! I got a new one this spring and I love it! Are you sure yours just doesn't need a cleaning and tune-up? My old one got some special treatment a few years ago and it made a HUGE difference.

It is a gorgeous unseasonably warm day today, so we are hoping to go kayaking before dinner. Phoebe didn't nap well today, though, and is a little cranky, so I hope it goes well. We need to get moving if it's going to happen, so I'll be back later.
