First foods and allergies.......

My son is 7 1/2 mos, and I have been starting him on some veggies and fruits. I'm paranoid about allergies as his father has a ton of allergies to fruits and veggies. All the info I can find talks about major allergic reactions, like their throat closing up or swelling in the face, but what about more minor reactions? Will has had a rash on the sides of his mouth for a while. It comes and goes and seems to get better or worse on a whim. He has really really sensitive skin, so I don't know if its just from his face being wet with drool all the time from teething, or if its something else, or if its the foods I've been giving him. Any ideas or suggestions, or places to get more info on allergies?

My two kids that are food allergic were both allergic to the first food they tried. My dd was allergic to rice cereal(outgrown) and my ds was allergic to oatmeal cereal(also outgrown). Both had eczema from an early age. In both of them, the eczema(often with red cheeks) got worse when they tried their first foods. My ds didn't have a major reaction till he was 2(hives to peanut butter), when he was tested though, he was allergic to alot of things and it had affected his growth.

Did he have the redness(off and on or otherwise) before you started giving any foods? If he did have the redness before, then it probably isn't allergies and I wouldn't worry about it. With a family history though, I don't see why you couldn't hold off on the fruits/veggies until he is 1.
