My midwife is at a birth, and I'd like to not bother her right now. I had a period sometime mid june and mid july, then a late period 8/26. on 9/3 I was in the hospital for respiratory distress and they did a urine pg test before a chest x-ray. It was positive. It has continued to be positive (I've tested about a dozen more times since then at home... I have issues). I had spotting again on 9/11ish, and started some spotting and cramping again Friday. I'm carrying this feeling of impending doom. I've had 5 miscarriages, and feel this one (even though I don't know I will miscarry I feel it intuitively) is going to threaten my life. I thought I felt my water break last night, and did have an abundance of fluid last night, but nothign more today. (there was no smell to it, so not urine). My mw can't order ultrasounds, and I don't have someone that could. I am afraid to go to the ER because they will send me to LD and they will want to do a pelvic, even though I have checked my own cervix and it is closed, but low. I'm a rape survivor, and pelvics are traumatizing to me. I have a doppler, and have been trying the past few days to get a heart beat. I thought I had it earlier this week, but now wonder if it was just my own heartbeat and my digital read out was off. Assuming 8/26 was breakthrough bleeding, I'm 10 weeks. If it was a late period, would the 9/3 test already have been positive? If 8/26 was a miscarriage, would I still be testing positive? Any thoughts?

I just wanted to say that if you go to the ER you can outright refuse to have a pelvic and you don't have to tell them your history if you don't want to. Follow your instincts mama.
sorry not to have anything better to offer.

I think if you were pg on 9/3, the 8/26 bleeding was pregnant bleeding, not a period. I doubt that if you miscarried 8/26 you would still be testing +, though I don't know that for sure - but I think the levels of hormone go down pretty quickly if you completely lose a pg.
Is there a place you could go for a non-medical US (like those 4D places?) Although, if you're only 10 wks I don't know if that would work - when do they start doing US from the abdomen rather than transvaginally (which I would think would be at least as traumatizing as a pelvic exam - I am not a rape survivor and I found my first one traumatizing.)
I guess the in-between scenario would be if you have an incomplete miscarriage which somehow is leaving your hormone levels high - or an ectopic pg, perhaps, which could certainly threaten your life. Please don't let this go too long - my SIL had an ectopic recently which could have killed her had my brother not taken her to the hospital in the middle of the night knowing something was NOT right.
