Looking for info before we see doc

I believe that my ped is pretty good re circ. I have noticed an oddity with nb ds penis and wanted to gather info before seeing him.
Ds is adopted and intact--Hooray!!
But, I have discovered that the opening to his urethra is off to the side. That was a suprise the first time I changed his diaper! got the washcloth over his little penis to avoid getting shot-and out the side it went! Anyway, I'm not really worried about which way he pees at this point. It may bother him and be a nuisance later on. If it needs to be fixed, that's fine. I'm worried though that dr will just say to circ and all will be well. Uh, nope.
Has anyone ever heard of this condition before? I'm not even sure how to search for it, maybe it even has a name? I'd love any information any of you have.

Are you judging the position of the opening based on the the urine stream? If so, I would not and i would not take him to the doctor for that; my son shoots off to the side sometimes too and that doesn't mean the opening is in the wrong place.

If you actually know the hole is off to the side (by the way, in case you dont know, you should not be retracting the foreskin) this can be fixed later if he so chooses. If he is peeing normally with no issues then there is no reason to fear anything.

I am sure more people with more experience will post soon, but this is just my instincts on this. Oh, and if it is really off to one side, I believe it is called hypospadias---but dont hold me to that someone will more information can confirm that for me!

I looked around in the archives a bit of MDC and found that it seems if there is a curve to the penis- chordee- that makes the condition more in need of surgical correction.

Again, i am going on what I am reading in old posts though and I would wait for more knowledgable members.

Ok is the urethra on the side of his penis or does the pee just shoot off to the side when he goes? The foreskin can often shift and make pee apear to come out in the wrong direction but it has nothing to do with the urethral opening.

More specifics would definatly help.

If the actual opening is in the wrong spot that would be hypospadius. But the opening is usually on the bottom of the penis not on the side of the penis.

Also if she can see the urethra opening without retracting the foreskin...that would also seem to be hypospadias, right? since the foreskin is not complete? or it could just be a short foreskin?

It almost seems like the forskin is curved around to the side. And I can see the urethral opening on his right side. I did some google searching and found hypospadias. Not sure if that fits as there is no curve and no hood. But it's definately back a bit from the end. But just a bit.
Oh, and no retracting here.

Definatly sounds like a mild hypo. If it were me and he is peeing fine I wouldnt bother with mentioning it to the DR. odds are good he will try to retract just to see what is going on and that can cause damage. This is one of those variations that happen and I would let him decide later if he wants to have it corrected. Here are some links on it some with pictures. Warning some of these pictures are of medical proceedures . One of them you have to join but it is free and it has really good pictures.

There are many different variations of this condition. Ranging from slightly off center urethra to a urethra that opens at the scrotum. Your ds's sounds very slight and shouldnt cause any issues.

I just found this as well http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/e...cle/001285.htm
Sounds like your ds may have a form of Epispadias. I just googles it and there is a bunch of information you may find helpful. Looks like this form of defect can be a indicator of bladder issues so he may need a VCUG. Tho I wouldnt put him through that unless he starts having UTI issues.

Honestly from your descritpion what he has is very mild tho.
