Our family has one by one been finding out some way or another that we're TTCing, so today I told my mom because I didn't want her to find out through someone else. Wanna know what she said?
"Are you SURE?" with a scared look on her face. "After all you had to go through with J?" (I had a C-section after 46 hours of labor and massive PPH.)
We aren't planning on blabbing our homebirth plans to everyone, so I just said, "I think I can handle it."
"Well, at least they'll know to just give you a C-section this time!" she said.
I bit my tongue about fifteen times and then walked out the door (I was about to leave when I told her).
Ugh. Thanks for the support, mom. No, "Oh, that's great! I can't wait to have another grandchild!" or anything like that. I don't expect her to jump for joy at the idea of a homebirth, which is why I'm not going to tell her, but I still wasn't expecting her to say THAT.
This is why we aren't telling many people, except for our online friends who actually support homebirth. Of course, DH thinks that because I don't want to tell people that this is something dangerous, but I'm trying to convince him that it's because I just don't need the ignorance, the horror stories and negative vibes. I told him about Dave Matthew's wife giving birth at home and he thought that was super-cool!
Just had to vent a little to people who understand. Thanks!

Perhaps you could educate your mom, subtlely, about homebirth; maybe eventually she'll come around and surprise you. I hope that you could also find some local, supportive people to lean on; it sounds lonely going it alone. perhaps check the tribal areas forum and meet up with some MDC'ers or find a holistic moms chapter near you. Sometimes you just need someone who understands.
