Intact and Pushing to urinate?

I always thought it was normal but asked somewhere else and it seems it is not....

Is it normal for an intact boy to have to push pretty hard to get the urine out in the beginning? I imagine that it's because of the foreskin coming together and maybe sticking a bit (think hot legs on leather)? I'm not sure but sometimes he has to push REALLY hard... is that normal?

No he doesn't have a UTI or anything like that... He does not retract at all yet. (He's 4) His foreskin comes over his penis by quite a bit and the opening is maybe the size of a pencil eraser.

My son does the same thing. He's three and can retract half way over the glans, so I know it's not a "too tight" kind of thing. He grunts and pushes trying to figure out the right release muscle. Never seems to be in pain/discomfort. He's just got a flair for the dramatic!

OK, nevermind my post, sorry. I was just confused about all the repeat posts in this thread.

DS does the same thing. He's 2 1/2 and not retractable at all. I just figured it was part of the potty training - learning how to work the right muscles.

Unless the stream is super tiny I wouldnt worry about it. From your description the opening is plenty large enough.

I knew I should have only asked here.... Thanks. I thought it was normal as well but women on another board were making me worry a bit! Thanks again!

I'm new to MDC and was just checking out the different threads...saw your post and I thought I'd let you know that my circ'd son does the same thing. I don't think it has anything at all to do with being intact. I even asked DH about it, "Do you have to push when you go pee?" He said, "I guess so, kind of". So, I think it is just a boy thing...intact or not. Just thought I'd give you my two cents! HTH! Not to worry

My ds calls it "making his weewee go pop." I had to think about that one a bit, then I figured it out. He gets a little ballooning and has learned that if he blasts out some pee, it does a dramatic balloon and mini-explosion of urine rather than just kinda going out in a boring way. (Yes, my bathroom is hosed down often ) He's halfway retractable now and gets a good stream.

Okay this maybe TMI, but sometimes I push. If I'm in a hurry to get out of the BR I push harder than I do if I'm not in a rush. He probably just wants to get back to playing.
