Well, gee, you probably DO know my body better than I do!

Sarcasm fully intended.

People annoy me. This one woman, in particular. She saw me the other day and congratulated me on being pregnant, and asked me when I was due.

Me: Feb. 22

Her: Oh, don't tell Brad [her husband] that; he'll want you to wait until the 23rd--that's his birthday.

Me: It's going to be long past his birthday, anyway. I won't have it until March.

Her: When?

Me: March. Everyone in my family goes late.

Her: *looks skeptically*

Me: Darren was two weeks late.

Her: *While looking superior* Every pregnancy's different.

Me: I know, but in my entire family [and my mom is one of 13, if that gives you some idea of size!], everyone has gone at least two weeks late. No one has ever gone early or on time.

Her: *Continues to look at me like she knows better*

Me: Well I will be pleasantly suprised if I go on early or on time, but it's not going to happen.

This is the same woman who was POSITIVE that I was having twins last time. After all, SHE had had twins, and she KNEW. No, actually, I just had one, very big (9.8), very long (23") child.

Just for dramatic effect, I hope I go a month late.

Oh geez. Don't you love know-it-alls?

Yeah, those "superior" people really annoy me too, though I've been fortunate to only have one in my life, my MIL, she's been great practice for when I meet anyone else like her, I'll know what to say! Though I don't even understand what the point i s for her to question you in that way, why couldn't she have just smiled and agreed with you? You know why, because you are confident and she is not, so she has to try to make others feel insecure about what they believe...does that ring true? I don't know, I just had dinner with my MIL and she's getting better, there was not criticism or unsolicited advise this time, so I believe this indigestion is solely the fault of my little one down below!

my brother's friends wife is such an idiot: here is one of the many gems she has presented me with:

(her dd is 2 mo older than mine, and she actually just gave birth to #2 today, a boy)

here is our conversation when she found out she was having a boy:

her: well if you have a girl the first time you're pretty much guaranteed to have a boy the second time.

me: um, no. the chance is pretty much even each time. and statistically, you are more likely to have another girl due to (i tell her about 1/2 dozen factors)

her: (feathers *clearly* ruffled) oh.

a conversation we had when her cat's kittens were all stillborn:

her: yeah two of them were very small. about half the size of the others. you know how cats sometimes get pregnant again when they are already pregnant? that's why they were small.

me: actually, the kittens didn't develop properly. there is *no way* to get pregnant again when you/an animal is already pregnant. (i proceed to give her "the facts of life" talk)

her: (skeptically) oooohh.

I can't stand people like that.

My stepfather told me I could not catch my own baby. I told him I had a birth video if he wanted to see it was possible. He declined

FWIW, my three were born at 43.5, 37.5 and 42. It's not impossible for a habitual postdates mum to have, in effect, a full-term preemie.

People like that just give me a tickle. Most the time i just have a little giggle and go on my way. Cause if i didn't do that i might go off on a very long "talk"....

Actually, it is possible. My mom worked with a gal who had fraternal twins that the doctors estimated were concieved a few weeks apart. It's called superfetation (or superfecundation if it occurs during one cycle). I'd never heard of it until then. Crazy, huh?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Superfetation

Edited to add:

Being pregnant makes me want to hibernate so that I can avoid all of the "experts" that come out. My OB and I were pregnant with our first babies together (she had her son two weeks after I had mine). We had a conversation about all of the stupid things people say to pregnant women. I figure if it happens to a woman who has been through medical school and trained specifically in women's health and childbirth, there's no help for the rest of us!

yes, i've heard of it, but it is soooooo very rare, it was not worth mentioning to an already very confused woman.

even considering superfetation (which in itself is debated, as most evidence comes from estimation of the fetal ages) there is no possible way to get pregnant again in the middle of pregnancy. it just cannot happen.

Yeah, that's sort of what I was thinking. If the kittens were stillborn, you're right that they probably didn't develop properly. If she had trouble getting to that point herself, the talk about superfetation probably would have made her :

Ah, the blessing and curse of being a plus-sized mama. I don't get any of the gushy, "so when are you due?" questions, but I don't have to deal with the the unsolicited advice everyone seems to get.

I'm sorry you have to deal with *ahem* opinionated people.

don't you love people like that? And not only do they think they know when you'll deliver but they feel like they have to tell you that you are HUGE or TINY when you are perfectly normal or measuring at the correct size. My neighbor proceeded to nearly fall off her deck with her jaw on the GROUND when she saw my profile the other day and told me I was going to be ENORMOUS! Actually I'm measuring right on target, my blood pressure is great, no swelling(at this time last pregnancy I was a week from bedrest for pih and swelling), only 2lb weight gain, and maternity pants are just starting to fit at 2 days away from 20 weeks. Otherwise I"m still wearing my size 6's with a bella band. So yeah, HUGE!
