How many covers needed?

I have at least 10 newborn covers now, different brands. I wouldn't mind some other nicer covers too, but anywhoo...

How many do I need in a day, typically?

It's hard to say b/c you really only need to wash covers when they get poo on them or if they stink really bad. I usually used one and aired it out (if still clean) until the next diaper change. 10 sounds like enough - plus you never know how long your baby will be in NB covers. Do you have smalls too?

I've been told around 6 covers are fine, as you can use them a few times before washing them.

Are you making them? I'd start collecting or making small and mediums.

Which kind do you like? I'm in the market for some myself.

I have 8 and was told that was plenty.

can I get away with skipping newborn sizes with prefolds and wraps and go straight to small? Titus was big and got bigger fast and I am just guessing this one will do the same given that she's already measured ahead.

Sarah, I don't think you can really count on being able to do that. We used sposies on dd1 until she was 3 months. She started out (seriously) in size 1 diapers. NB sposies did not fit her. But dd2 came out skinny and shriveled up like an old man and all of my cloth and sposie newborn diapers were too big on her. We actually ended up buying 2 packs of preemie diapers until the cord feel off and we could fit some larger diapers on her. You just never know.

Gina, that sounds like plenty to me. I would focus on the smalls now.

Gina, I think ten is more than enough. I'd get the "nicer" covers in a size small since baby will probably wear those longer than NB anyway.

Maybe, but I wouldn't count on it. A larger cover might mean wicking if the dipe slips around or blowouts around the legs or up the back if it gaps too much. I think you can get away with an infant PF folded into a NB cover as long as you're vigilant that the PF is totally tucked in! So, maybe skip the preemie PFs but not the XS/NB covers.

Isaac was 10 lbs at birth and I think this baby will be about the same, so I hear ya on this. It's such a drag to think about spending more $ on NB covers that they'll grow out of in no time flat! But...I think it must be done

I am not sure which kind, really. Anything that fits Kissaluvs and preemie prefolds. I am definitely going to focus on smalls and mediums now, but sort of wondering if I should wait until I settle on the right diaper. *sigh* -- so lost sometimes!

I may sell off a few of the NB covers I got in though.
