another tooth at 5 y o??? help! i'm worried it is not a tooth, but then what?

DD, 5y 2m, has a sore in her gum, that looks like a tooth coming out. i don't remember any teeth at 5??? it hurts her a bit, she says she can't eat there. and she was okay with that, but when i told her it looked like a new tooth, she freaked out and is not moaning in pain ( ) but i do feel sorry for her, as she is sensitive to pain...

it is a red raw looking spot with a whitish rim around it. she says it all feels like a soft bump, with her tongue. what is happening? a sore or a new tooth for real???

and what do i do to relieve her discomfort? (no homeotpatic remedies available until Saturday or Monday)

thanks!

Where is it? I have a friend whose child has a permanent tooth erupting near, but not under her deciduous tooth. Both teeth are still there and visible. The dentist said that once the permanent tooth has come up completely, it would finally push out the deciduous tooth. It could be that your dd is just getting her permanent teeth.

it is right after her last lower molar. i thought it was a tooth, because of the location.

she has 10 upper and lower, i just counted. her front teeth (they are the first to go, right? are very firm)

i'm totally freaking out that it is some kind of a sore, and we have no dentists in town, and she is so sensitive to pain, and something like gargling with salty water is not an option...

we will be in ottawa on friday, but probalby won't be able to see anyone until monday...

okay, i need to calm down...

Could easily be an "early" 6yr old molar.

DS just turned 6. He hasn't lost any teeth yet but has one of his molars coming in. DD1 had her '6 yr' molars come in when she was 5.

I don't have any advice for relieving the pain until you can get the homeopathic remedies. They never seemed to bother my kids.

My dd has 22 teeth (two extras on top) and her dentist isn't worried about it. If it's an extra tooth or an early permanent tooth, she's probably fine.

Our ds got his 6 year molars at 5 1/2, so yes, I think it's probably that. Some kids are just more sensitive to it than others.

You can give her cool wet wash cloths to chew on! Put a few in the fridge and see if that helps.

how do i know if it is a canker sore or a molar? just wait?

i feel terrible if it is a canker sore, as since i got pregnant we are eating less veggies, as i can't stand them...and the article said it can be related to nutritional defficiencies.

right now she says it doesn't bother her as much. i think she overreacted a bit when i told her she actually had either a sore or a tooth coming out.

My ds got his 6 yo molars on the bottom at 5 1/2, too. He is now 6 and the top ones have not come in yet. He lost his first tooth on the bottom just before turning 6 and a second one on the bottom today, a month later.
