who is doing nano? - Page 5

I'm definitely wondering whether it's the right decision but I'm very, very anxious for it to start!!

I have no idea what my story will be about this year. Last year, I just sat down, in the morning on November 1st, and started writing.... and pounded out a literary fiction novella - a tragic love story between a young woman and a much, much older man. :

We'll see what happens this year.......!

Guess what? I know that I have said that I am going to do it this year, but the other day, while running, the best story idea I have ever had in my life just hit me...bam...out of nowhere. Well, not really out of no where, but you know what I mean.

I am so excited now for Nov. first...is it here yet?? I cannot wait to start writing. I'm behind on this thread, but remind me...is it okay for me to map out my writing plan/characters/dates/etc before the 1st so that I have it to refer to?

I was really excited about my story idea and now I feel very disenchanted with it again. Very disenchanted. :

I am also dealing with some digestive-health problems that make me very tired and fuzzy-headed and I am concerned how that is going to affect my ability to write. *sigh*

Hey, can anyone tell me the gist of the No Plot, No Problem book so that I don't have to read it? You know, tips, the basic idea behind it, that kind of thing . . .

I'd rather have some outlining done and an idea of the plot to begin with, but I may not have that option-- I'm running out of time! (Is that a timelock AND an optionlock?? )

I am going to try again this year--in the past I never made it all of the way through---but my boys were younger then too.

I'm totally excited to start my first Nano, but I have no idea where my novel belongs, genre-wise. Not chick lit, not quite mainstream, but I don't think it's LitFic either. Maybe once I start writing it, a gerne will appear.

That's totally how I was last year. And yes once I really got into the story the genre just fell into place.

I'm doing it! Even if I don't finish, I really want to try. Where I'll get the time, I don't know, but maybe if I spend all my MDC time on my story instead, I could have a shot!

I didn't know there was a nano thread!

I did it last year and succeeded. I was so proud, even though I would never ever let anyone read my story...it wasn't good.

I'm thinking of giving it another shot with a 2000wpd goal.

Aw nova, it can't be any worse than mine!

We should trade some time......

Hi everyone! What a great group.

OK after giving this a LOT of thought on the bus ride to work this morning..... I finally realized I *really* want to write some chick lit.

Anyone with me??

I think my story is going to turn out to be "chick lit"; the main characters are female and it's going to be written with a humorous tone. I'm not planning to have a romance element, though, so I'm not sure if it would technically qualify.

I can't wait til November!!!

Gah. I am stuck on the plot. I just want to have a basic story in my head before I start writing. No charting or research, just a general flow. Oh no! I have writer's block before I've written anything!!!

If it makes you feel any better, any time I've ever tried to write anything with the plot scripted out beforehand, one of two things inevitably happens: 1) I end up with a terrible, unrealistic-feeling story with forced dialogue and one-dimensional characters, or 2) I go off-script and Just Write.

Yup! I'm in!

I have a story idea that is definitely chick lit. The details are good, but i just don't have the big "conflict" worked out yet. Isn't that what they always say...you gotta have a conflict to draw them in.

I'm doing it. I am having to sit on my hands to keep me from starting now. I'm very impatient for November 1 to start.

I have characters and place pretty much set in my mind, but no plot. That shouldn't matter, tho, right?

Glad to see some other moms will be in the event. I'd love to hear about everyone's progress and word count.

AuraKitten & VernaBloom--me too! I mean, writing chick lit! I just checked out a bunch of chick lit from the library in the name of "research" ... of course of read a ton of it before though. My fave chick lit authors are Clare Naylor (hasn't written anything in the last few years, I think...her last one sucked real bad) and Meg Cabot.

My username on nano is "secondstar" so if any of yall see me on there feel free to give a holler!

Hi all! I signed up a little while back then promptly put it out of my head because I didn't want to get too freaked out. But I'm sure gonna try hard to win. I haven't been doing any of the writing I want to do and I think this will be a great push to get me started again. My LO is just about three months and I finally feel like my head is back on straight. We are moving the 7th of Nov, so the next week is supposed to be packing up the apt of a pack-rat who's lived in one place for EIGHT years, but I'll probably have to spend some of that time on writing anyhow.

I think I might be joining you and others in this genre, though I might end up with a straight-up romance. I've got a few character ideas (VERY vague) and some setting, but not much plot. So far I haven't written anything down. I feel that I should do some planning, but and the same time there's a part of me that wants to completely wing it.

Can't wait to see how everyone does!

PS Hello fellow August DDCers!

I'm going to try it again this year. I originally was going to try 2 years ago, then found out I was pregnant a week into it and spent the rest of the month with my head hanging over the toilet.

I'm really excited about this year, though! I have a general idea of my plot, chick lit here too.

My nano name is parity13 if see me around on there.
