32 weeks measuring 36

Should I be concerned? The dr. is not the least bit worried, says it's just a big baby and I am not a small person, either. I'm 5'10" and during this pregnancy have gone over 200 lbs.

Another worry... I am also gaining weight like crazy... but the dr. is not concerned because my blood pressure and urine are fine. I had HBP in my first pregnancy, but so far, it's not been a problem.

The weight gain thing is just scaring me... I gained 10 lbs in 2 weeks! He says at this point, it's just fluid. I am keeping a food journal and there is no way the weight is fat!!! That would be 35,000 extra calories and there is just no way. Obviously, I know to keep an eye on things like swelling and my BP. I am just afraid because I've had trouble with this in the past. I have not been avoiding salt.. maybe I should? I have been drinking a ton of water, iced tea, etc.

Anyone else having huge weight gains related to fluid and are NOT having high blood pressure? Maybe this is just what my body does in pregnancy??

Me

I've gained over 50 lbs already. Most of it was gained in the first trimester when I was sick as a dog. I puked and could hardly eat at all and yet continued to gain like crazy!! I gained 70 lbs with Pixie. My MWs during my first pregnancy told me I would NEVER lose the weight. I lost it all within a year and THEN some.
They also told me she would be about 6, mayyyyyybe 7 lbs at birth WHILE I was delivering- nope!- she was 8lbs, 9oz.

I eat well- I don't eat junk and I eat pretty low fat/low sugar foods other than the occasional splurge on dessert, etc. I know that my weight gain is not from eating unhealthy like I was accused of in my first pregnancy (I was living on strawberries and yogurt that preg!)

My MWs this time have not mentioned my weight. I have brought it up many times and they KEEP telling me not to worry, that some women just tend to gain a lot in pregnancy and it's not a big deal. I don't have gestational diabetes and I'm not swelling or anything like that... everything is pretty healthy (though I feel like crap from heartburn, etc. I really am healthy!)

My uterus is measuring right where it's supposed to, although the MW was even surprised by that because she said it usually measures bigger with subsequent pregnancies (that might be your issue!) I guess it just stretches better the 2nd time around! HOWEVER, my U/S on Saturday had the baby measuring a full 3 WEEKS ahead! A baby that "should" be 4 lbs is supposedly 5lbs, 6 oz already. The tech said that that can be off either way by half a lb though. MW said- no big deal. Said it's a big, healthy baby and not to worry and that they aren't going to change my EDD because later measurements are VERY inaccurate.

The moral of the story? Don't worry about it.

I haven't been seeing a doc regularly this time.... but with DS, I gained well over 80 pounds (I'm only 5'6") and at one point during an ultrasound they estimated him to be over 11 pounds. I had a ton of swelling, but my BP was almost exactly the same every visit and there were no other problems. (Well, the PUPPP and diet managed GD, which is why I had u/s's so late to begin with. but nothing harmful to me or babe.) I have no idea how many weeks ahead that would have been, but I imagine a lot.

He was 9.3 and I had a wonderful delivery BTW

I gain a lot because I crave dessert! I think that you are fine and will lose a huge amount of weight after you give birth and are no longer retaining fluids. It is hard to see the scale get so high, but you sound healthy to me and I am sure that you will have a healthy baby too!

I've also gained a lot of weight overall this pregnancy (almost 50 lbs) and continue to do so. I did the same with DD and no one was concerned and they're not this time either. Towards the end it did seem to be mostly fluids and I did swell up quite a bit and I can see that that it starting to happen again.

To me, your weight gain doesn't sound out of line, and if your OB is fine with it, I wouldn't worry about it.

As for measuring ahead, I've always wondered about the accuracy of that, particularly if baby is still moving around because that can affect how big you measure. Again, if your OB is fine, don't make trouble for yourself and just enjoy the fact that you are feeling healthy.

Thank you all SO much. I am relieved to know I am not the only one. I gained a TON of weight (60+) with ds and lost it all and more (30 lbs more!) in about a year and 2 months. My OB has been great about the weight, only saying it's just more for me to lose after, but he's not worried about it. It is just SO hard seeing those numbers go up after losing so much!!! It's depressing. And I haven't been able to do a lot of exercise because of contractions.

I was really overweight when I got pregnant the first time, and having lost all the weight I gained plus more had me feeling so great! Now I feel like I've lost all that progress and I guess it's just really hard.

Plus the weight coming so fast now reminds me of my first pregnancy even though, so far, I do not show any signs of pre-e like I had the first time. I'm trying to just believe it's all going to be okay.

Swelling is not so bad yet, although today was the first day I could not wear my rings!

I am measuring large (5 weeks ahead) but have not had big weight gain- 21 lbs so far. I was concerned at first but the baby is very average based on ultrasounds (I don't know how accurate that weight actually is though). I would not worry too much. I have heard it can depend on how much amniotic fluid you have, how the baby is positioned, etc.

hi mamas! i keep measuring at least 3 weeks ahead each MW appt. we don't know what is going on as i apparently wasn't measuring larger w/ meghan when i was pg with her. sooo i'm just not sure. maybe it is due to this being my 2nd pg...? or maybe cuz he is all curled up in there...or maybe i just bulge out more for petes sake. MW thinks he is just a long baby...hmmmmmmmm. i don't believe i had a period while pg early on. we shall see what happens!
