I'm going to search for a dr. to assess my situation and possibly prescribe some meds, but I want to be sure that I get the right ones...what should I look out for?

Make sure you let her know that you are nursing if you are. That will give her a place to start.

Yes, the biggest thing is if you are nursing or pregnant. There are some meds that are better than others for this.
The other thing is to go to a psychiatrist and not a GP for meds. Psychiatrists know the meds better and will have a better chance of getting you started on the right thing.
The other part of it is sometimes trial and error, only because some people respond better to some meds than others. Know ahead of time that there is a couple of weeks adjustment time to any meds, and the psych will be able to tell you what to expect during that time.
Best wishes and congratulations on seeking help. It will be so worth it.

ITA...I ended up being referred to a psychopharmacologist for my meds. They and psychiatrists are the best at knowing what meds work best for which situations and are better at discerning what is and is not working. IT took 6 months before we actually had me on the right combination of meds that were working and not causing unreasonable side effects.
Good luck mama and be patient with this process.
