I have an 18 yo client who want so badly to have natural birth but has found to have protein in her urine--I'm not familiar with what this actually means>??

I'm not a birth professional but I am studying medicine and protein in the urine means that the kidney's aren't doing their job properly. It can also be a warning sign for Pre-E

It indicates possible pre-e among other things:

protein in urine is almost always normal. it CAN be a symptom of pre-e (if she also has high BP), or a UTI, but a trace amount of protein is considered within normal limits. many practitioners don't even test for it routinely as it hasnt been shown to have any diagnostic value in normal healthy women.

yep, it's pretty normal with a dipstick. it's not indicative of anything but usually dehydration, some infections and some residual issues that aren't really important.

if you're looking at protein in the urine for pre-e, you have to do a 24 hour urine collection since our urine concentration changes throughout the day.
