Oct No-Spend Challenge: End of the month is here. Hang on No-spenders Almost There! - Page 73

pacificbliss that foodsaver will pay for itself if you actually use it! My mil bought me one last winter holiday and I was like, I won't use this what a waste, with 5 kids we don't have time much less food left over to save.

Lo and behold I pulled it out last month adnd have gone through 2 rolls of the bags already and actually ran out 2 weeks ago but haven't had the funds to buy more. It did help Dh save money not buying meals when I would just wrap him up a plate and foodsave it

same here - we bought divided plates at our local thrift, fill with leftovers, seal and have an easy homemade TV dinner!

What's a food saver? It just sounds like something that bags food... Why bother when you can bag/plate/freeze/etc it yourself? IMO you're just paying for more convenience---of course, I don't know exactly what this is... SO if that doesn't make sense, ignore me!
My sister swears by her foodsaver, too. I think the thing behind them is that they seal really well so there's no freezer-burn, right?

I wash and re-use our freezer bags, so I am sure that's cheaper, but sometimes the food doesn't loko so good after being in the freezer for a while!

foodsaver's remove all of the air from the bag before sealing, and yes the seal is fantastic. This helps the food last longer and prevents freezer burn way better than ziplock bags. You can reuse the foodsaver bags but you lose some of the bag each time due to having to cut it open.
What I like the best is that it doesn't leave that weird plastic smell or taste on the food like glad and ziplock bags.

I didn't get the stroller, but that's fine with me. DH and I went over our budget that we're starting for November (we made out a cash-only budget following advice from watching Til' Debt do Us Part), and I think it'll definitely be something we can stick to! The past few days have been horrible though as far as our spending goes.

Oct 1:
Oct 2: : $42 at WalMart for baby shower gifts, a dress for dd, and face soap, $6.83 for photo developing at Walgreens. I think I'm taking the dress back, though, and that'll be $12.42 I get back plus tax.
Oct 3:
Oct 4: : $10.68 on lunch after my prenatal with the backup OB, $11.98 on non-budgeted groceries, $80 on carseat/base for new baby...budgeted!
Oct 5: : $17 on food, $23 on craft supplies for dd and laundry detergent (it was on sale and will last us at least 10 months, even when we have diaper laundry again!)
Oct 6:
Oct 7: $5 on food
Oct 8: $12 on pizza (we split with my folks)
Oct 9:
Oct 10: $36 or so total on dinner for DH and I, a few more baby shower gifts, and postage to mail baby shower gifts.
Oct 11: $22 on groceries and homeopathic cold remedy for dd, $253 on cc loaned to my folks for ER treatment for their (my pre-marriage) 13 y/o dachshund.
Oct 12: $19 on breakfast
Oct 13: DH did have to spend $15 on getting a flat fixed on our van, but it came out of "allowed" spending. I have a free soda for when I want my caffeine fix tonight while doing my homework.
Oct 14: for me. I bought necessary groceries, but DH did go to McD's since he didn't have time to eat before work.
Oct 15: : $9.34 at taco bell, $2.50 at the gas station.
Oct 16:
Oct 17:
Oct 18: $15 at Wal-Mart for dog food and hangers, $7 at McD's. We budgeted about $30 for the pumpkin patch and $40 for gas. And paid all of our bills for the rest of the month.
Oct 19:
Oct 20: $42 on groceries
Oct 21: and I paid an extra $150 on one of our credit cards!
Oct 22: (it's easy to be no spend when you have $19 to last until Thurs! )
Oct 23: Dh spent $12 on supper
Oct 24: : $32 on supplements and Halloween costume supplies (going to a Whole Foods sponsored ToT tomorrow night!), $15 on eating out with DH and DD, $30 on a maternity support (that chiro and MW both told me I NEED to get a wear the rest of the pregnancy) and a belly band since none of my shirts are long enough to cover my belly.
Oct 25: : $34 to take us, my mom, and my "little sister" (old daycare kid we're super close to) out to eat.
Oct 26: : $27 at Denny's, $20 cash for the pumpkin patch, $53 for DH a hoodie (he needed this), $35 bill payment
Oct 27: : $90 on BRU credit card ($50 was my mom's) for another maternity support, and birthday presents for my best friend's little boy, and 2 Christmas presents for dd, various bits on snacks, $11 on gas
Oct 28: $20 eating out, $12 on a diaper from diaperswappers

Thank God the month is almost over and we have no bills left!

tribe and sandygirl we used it already to put some meals away I have high hopes for this purchase. We have been talking about getting one for a while.

mrskennedy we went back and forth about it. Is it a waste, will it just end up in the closet, etc. We'll see how it works out. We have been noticing freezer burn on some things so we're hoping to avoid that problem.
