(Is there already a thread for this somewhere?)
Costumes: I'm not buying anything this year.
Ds1: wearing old patched clothes and a pumpkinhead. (his design, we'll see how it goes)
Ds2: a farmer, with overalls, hanky, corncob pipe and straw hat, rake
Ds3: a cat (sweatpants and sweatshirt, homemade 'ears' headband, makeup for nose and whiskers, socks over hands and feet, a felt tail)
Ds4: wants to be an owl. I have a large amount of brown felt that I plan to make a hood with ears and wings out of, he'll have his brownish sweatpants for his legs and a construction paper beak.
I'm going to be Static Cling. You cut out a hole in the bottom of an old laundry basket, to wear around your waste. Then you safety-pin a dryer sheet, underwear, a sock, to your shirt and pants to look like they are stuck on with static cling. Put an empty laundry soap box in the basket you are wearing, with some unfolded clothes.
We do something a little weird: as a gluten-free family, we can't eat many of the trick-or-treat candies, but we don't want to miss the social aspect of T'orT'ing. So we go, and then we come home, dump all the candy they got in a big bowl, and pass it out to the T'orT'ers that come to our house!
For their treats, my boys get GF candies, pumpkin doughnuts, apples, cider, popcorn, and chili soup. We play games, sing, and tell stories.
They'll be going to a free party at the park, where there will be hayrides. We get our apples and pumpkins from our local u-pick orchard.
What are you doing to be cheap but fun this Halloween?
