Is it supposed to feel like this?

This is the 5th pregnancy that I have made it this far. I am currently 31 weeks and since I had a (torturous) ultrasound on Monday, I feel like I have a UTI. I say torturous because unlike the u/s I had in the previous weeks at a different clinic, I had to keep the REALLY full bladder for a while. I was having a hard time staying out of the bathroom anyway because of some digestive upset and gassiness (sp?).

I called in the next day because it didn't fet better (I thought it might have just been the circumstances and gave it time to go away) and I talked to a pretty condescending nurse who tried to convince me that it was the baby's head rubbing against my pubic bone. I said that it wasn't, I can differentiate the feelings and this was new since the u/s and it really felt like a UTI or some sort of infection. No noticeable fever (I get hotflashes easily anyway, with this pregnancy). I haven't noticed any troubling cervical mucus).

I take the urine test and I am called the next day (Wednesday) and she asks me what is going on, what's up, like this was some excuse on my part to get their attention or something. I have dealt with this nurse before and she tends to be like that. She says there is no uti and again tries to convince me it is the baby's head. I ask if it is possible that it is some other infection going on and she kind of brushes it off and mentions her baby theory again.

I REALLY don't like dealing with these people but I am pretty sure that this isn't the baby causing this particular sensation. It hurts like a UTI but I am not peeing as frequently as I imagine I would with one (it has been quite some time but I do remember it being exquisitly painful).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

For the record, I have had horrible experiences with this clinic but with this pregnancy, with the exception of this nurse, things have gone pretty well.

If you're feeling something going on with your bladder, no matter what the dipstick says, you want to up your fluids like crazy. You could try unsweetened cranberry juice (diluted is more palatable), and lots of really strong (steeped 4-8+ hours) nettle tea. Also, upping the vitamin C. I think it's cruel and unusual punishment to ask a pregnant woman not to pee when she needs to. Perhaps that, plus the mashing on the full bladder during the ultrasound, is part of what's causing you pain. I can't give you any ideas as to cause (though your theory about a brewing infection sounds quite plausible), but I hope these ideas help get you back on track whatever's going on. What a crummy experience! I'm so sorry you had to deal with this!

I tell my clients that a full bladder does not mean a painful one. If it is so full that you are in pain, it is too full. Good luck.
