alternatives to antibiotics

My daughter has 2 teeth that need pulling. She's 3. First, the dentist needs the infection to go away; she says she can't pull the teeth when one is infected.

The dentist did give me a script for antibiotics but I'd rather do other things to get her ready for this procedure. So hit me with all your ideas and how to get stuff to work. Last time she had an infection, I used bee propilis, which she actually likes. I've heard good things (and bad) about grapefruit seed extract but I have no idea how to get it in her.

Meanwhile, I am trying a few homeopathic remedies for the pain but have had no luck. Hypericum, silica, Ruta ???, and I'm also giving some other homeopathic remedies to try to build her teeth and help with the adult teeth. I also try to use xylitol and do a few other things with diet. It's all a bit overwhelming.

No one has any ideas? This has been a very rough time. I seem to stumble upon something in the lineup that finally alleviates the tooth pain but I can't figure out what it is. She'll get great relief and then it stops. She went to bed happy and pain free but woke a few hours later when it wore off and it's been rough ever since. I can't do another night like this - will have to get the prescription filled if no one can help!

Sounds very hard

I don't know if these could eliminate the infection but if your dd is able to rinse, I have seen a dental rinse made from tea tree oil. I think it was called "Peelu." Also garlic. Could she eat raw garlic? Both of these are supposed to have some antibiotic properties. Other things that come to mind are cloves, neem leaves (or oil), and turmeric (maybe mix turmeric w/ water and rinse?).

I have NO experience using ANY of the above for tooth infection!
If you dont' have any good herbalist near you, PM me and I will give you the phone no of my herbally minded friends. THey don't mind talking on the phone at all!
Hope it goes well!

Sadly, I didn't last 24 hours after that post before filling the prescription. My older dd has never had ABX. I haven't bought the darned things in more than 15 years. But that night was so scary, I gave up. : She's doing better now. I'm still dabbling with all the other remedies though.

We have always used GSE with great success, although I haven't used it for dd yet. When she had dental issues, they didn't try to do the antibiotics before hand, just went straight to surgery. But, the GSE is all my dh and I use for tooth stuff. I, too wouldn't have a clue how to get it into dd, because that stuff is NASTY. I have to do it in a shot of soy juice to get it down, although dh does it in water.

Well I am still using it, sort of. I use it on her toothbrush after every brushing, and I put the teeniest drop on the brush before brushing with mineral toothpaste. She hates this but, well, she pretty much hates everything I'm doing to/for her. Sadly, she adores the abx and goes and gets it from the fridge. I understand that they have to make it palatable so kids will take the stuff but I almost wish there were an option for a nasty tasting kind or at least neutral and less yummy. :

we have had some success with SA(sodium ascorbate) to bowel tolerence and also 2 or 3 drops of hydrogen pyroxide directly on/around infected tooth/gum, and she can just spit it out or swallow with some water.
ds who is 6 has a tooth that needs tp be pulled and also has infection with a small "bubble" (thats what he called it)on the gum. it is now much better , no more "bubble" and he doesn't have any pain or anything. we also use xylitol for brushing. good luck , Ihope it works out well.

I mix my GSE with some OJ the citrus covers up the tartness pretty well. It probably wouldn't be so good for an infected too the though, it might irritate it.
