Trying to find health insurance-please help!

Can anyone tell if if you have to be an American citizen to apply for health insurance in USA? I know you can't if you're getting life insurance. Also, I'm looking at quotes online and I need the best rates possible. How do I know if I'm getting the best rates without checking everyone of them? This is all confusing to me. I'm not sure what i want. I've never bought health insurance before. I had Medicaid when I was a kid.

So I was recommended aetna PPO 5000 through www.ehealthinsurance.com
Its $366 for the whole family
maternity is not covered- I'm not pregnant but what if we wanted to ttc in a year or two?
10,000 deductible?

Really, I'm not sure if this is good or not.

In most cases, individual plans do not cover maternity at all. If you get a good plan it will cover complications of pregnancy, assuming no previous complications or C-section but you'll have to pay the routine stuff out of pocket.

I would consider a high deductible health plan with a health savings account. It really is the best deal going for self-insuring.

When you look at ehealthinsurance, you can do a custom search and ask only for plans that are HSA eligible.

I had a high deductible policy that covered my midwife visits but not my delivery, it was part of the rider on my policy. So that may be an option depending on the company.

Can you explain to me the what the health savings account is for (or what it does/how to use it) and why I'd need a high deductible plan? I don't understand..it all seems foreign to me.

You buy a hugh deductible health plan instead of a traditional co-pay plan to save on premiums. You pay everything out of pocket until your deductible is met.

You can deposit money in a health savings account to save the taxes on the money you'd be using to meet your deductible.

www.hsabank.com

will tell you just about everything you need to know about HSAs

Have you looked into state programs to cover uninsured kids? That would be one way to go.

Ebay has insurance for Powersellers. http://pages.ebay.com/services/buyan...thcarefaq.html

I am not sure about the pricing, but it might be worth looking into. To become a Powerseller, $1000 in sales for 3 consecutive months. :
